Sitting at -25 c feels -30 c or -13 f feels -22 f. Funny thing is, after the cold we've been having it doesn't seem so bad.
It is 13*F now up from -5*F this morning. I just loaded the OWB with more Maple and 2 Oak splits had to stir up the ashes got a 24 hr. burn time from last nights load of Maple 73* in the house.
25* right now and in the teens tonight... Bunch of uglies, then red oak before bed. I dunno how you boys up north do it, it hurts outside and its not even cold to most of you lol!
You and I are "very close" in temps right now! I just came in from my gun club and it's 23º now, Supposed to go to 16º tonight here in the DEEP south of NJ.
top exhaust, STT thermometer (one came with stove) 3 inches to the left of the flue pipe. I talked to Tom, owner at Woodstock, at an open house when I went down there to chat with the legend Backwoods Savage and his beautiful first wife . I used to do what you are doing. Tom said 'get stove out of third gear' in short keep STT under 700. running air from quarter to half. depending on wind. As soon Coaling starts and STT drop below 525 full air til 450.. Rake ash and reload.. At nite I am a little over quarter so I know it' safe when go to bed.
I have skied Jay peak with outside air temperature was 49 below and wind chill was "ridiculous". The coldest I have ever been was a hostil, north of ayers rock, it probably was 15 degrees but impossible to get warm. Not prepared as winter clothes down there is a jumper (we would call it a hoddie)
It was rough this morning for sure. 9 degrees out. Almost made me wish I wore a jacket when I left for work.
We are real close not just temp wise, Im just across the DE bay from you. Im not far at all from the Lewes/Cape May Ferry.
Heat wave here compaired to some of you all!!! But anything below freezing here is a bit chilly, I don't mind though!
Current temp -4°F headed down to -18F with moderate winds giving us a wind chill of down to -40°F overnight. Currently got the pellet stove running as well as a load of ash, hard maple, and birch getting the house temps up before bedtime.
13 out 71 in......burning ash right now... heading for zero overnight. Red oak and locust overnight. Need to bring up some shagbark. After reading some of these temps by other members I can get the Speedo's out to move wood.
