Saving the igniter. High when the stat calls and low when stat has reached temp(+1.5* of swing). Currans never made stat temp on level 3 house took too long from night setback(68* - we sleep better when its colder and 72 once we wake). AKA playing with me toys...........
I like that price... but I have yet to burn any hardwood. Where I live, there is no reason to. But I admit I'm a curious guy.
But why not keep hi on level 4, or 5? I kinda do the same thing. Always keep it on 3 for the EP, except for single digits. Tonight I will set it at 5. But i have no real reason why I dont keep it at 5 all winter long and never worry about the stove not being abe to feed itself what it needs. Just wondering why you dont either.
All really comes down to vent temps as I am ducted to registers. 4 is a bit too warm even with cruddy stuff. Need more blower CFM or by pass the controller to run fan at a higher speed, But then the noise is too much. Level 3 is where we like the noise level............. Specially at night.
Was ganna say circumstances due to stove police worries......... I cheat like heck to keep dis shack warm with my wanna be furnace. But there are things I have to be careful with. Wifey is usually barefoot...........
I find that leaving my throttle (feed rate) at around 3 all the time works out quite well for me. Up here in the PNW and my soft wood burns, it seems to be an ideal burn rate for us. Plus I don't have t mess with it. Perhaps that's the best part?

Hardwood pellets are all the rage around here. Especially among former wood stove burners that have converted to pellets. They tend to remain hesitant about burning softwood anything. That is until they get risky enough to try it one time, then they are typically hooked on the softies for good. Just getting them to try the softies that first time can be a real challenge though. It brings back memories of peer pressure in high school. Come on, try it just this once; you know you want to. See? Told ya you would like it!
Funny. They haven't extended their thinking to realize weight and size are irrelevant since all hard wood and soft wood condense down into the same size pellet. It's all the same density.
For those resistant, they need to read this article. DFs are so great because of high resins. "Depending on the species and other factors, softwood pellets actually have 10-20% more BTU per weight than hardwood pellets because softwoods have resins in them that have a higher heating value than wood fibre." they burn great and crank out the heat, unfortunately I lost my supplier but have several bags left out of the ton I bought last year. Got a landscape CO. not too far away that sells them but he want's 250 a ton. chugging along
Up Date on the Chows it's 6* in my back yard right now 71* upstairs feed rate 4 stove temp / constant burn 4 dist. fan low they work for me and I'll be grabbing some more . A bit more ash than the Vandy's yes , not that much .
GS keeping me toasty. 3º outside 70º inside. It also appears my new stove is a little more frugal on the pellet consumption
And then they jack the price up after your hooked on em.............. At least they are legal to consume.
