Glad it missed us, just enough snow to make a mess of the driveway. Had to leave the plow up a little cause the everything is starting to get soft. Got some stone coming as soon as it's all thawed out.

Did anyone ever try penny wise pellets? Our other pellets smell really bad when burning (Vulcan wood products) so we bought 5 bags of penny wise to try. They seem to smell better at least. The other ones smell like plastic.

I burned Pennywise a few seasons ago. They're made by Marth out of WI I think. They weren't bad, but a lot of them were long.

I burned Vulcan years back. All I remember is they were in a clear bag.

Anyone sell Somerset or Uncle Jed's in your area?

Cleaned the Pellet Stove today. Then fired it back up and left it on 6-6 for this cold day and night we have here. Suppose to be 1 tonight. With wind chills in the -20 range. Amongst cleaning up about 10-12 inches of snow around my two places and my parents. Luckily the parents have a nice Honda snow blower. And my Bobcat does about 95% of the work at my two places. It still took me half the day to clean all the places out and bring wood in for the next two days. WTF? Always something!

I wasn't aware they were the biggest in the state, I thought Maine Woods in Athens was the biggest. They're rated for 100,000 tons/year I believe. The mill in Strong makes several brands of pellets, with Maine Choice the one familiar to most burners. They don't produce a lot of heat but do produce a lot of ash. They also make a Geneva label. I've bever burned them but from what I hear they're better than the Maine Choice. They're also pricier and aren't sold in the box store where most of us buy the majority of our pellets.

Lowes in Sanford was selling Geneva at the beginning of the season. They had Maine Choice also. I didn't know the Strong plant made both brands.

I guess the Geneva company owns the Strong plant. Our family's cabin is 3 miles from there… I've watched that place try to make a go with tooth picks for years, and now the pellets. The area has very few employers so this biz is huge for that town. Doesn't take away that they still have to produce a good product. I looked around on the web and found pellet reviews and forums. I didn't realize there were so many companies that make em. Many like their pellets and some like others. Choice is good.

I noticed that, and they stink too! The whole house smelled like melting plastic. Gave me a headache. Maybe I can trade my sister a couple bags and see if they work good for her???

I work just off the St. Rt. 53 exit, and there were semi's EVERYWHERE this morning due to the Turnpike being closed. The four lane road was down to 2 lanes, and every parking lot was stuffed with trucks. Looked and sounded like the apocalypse had come early.
