Hey guys I'm on the market for a new saw. Really have my eye on a quality saw to last me a while. Want something that can handle the big trees around my house when storms hit or when I need to fell. Been looking at getting a husqvarna 562xp with a 24" bar. Anyone have any experience with it? Gripes about it? Praise? Just looking for some input. Thanks

It's a great 60cc saw . If your saw is going to be wearing a 24 " bar pretty much all the time , you might want to also look at 70 cc saws . I'm sure the 562 could pull a 24 . But, mine seems happier with the 20" techlite. Also it handles better with that bar . Jmho , John

I've run the 562 in both stock and ported form now. If you said you wanted a 20" bar for most of your cutting I'd say the. 562 is perfect. It will run a 24" but Nixon is right when he says a 70cc saw will run it better!

FWIW: The 562xp is an extremely smooth running saw with a surprising amount of power for a 60cc machine.

562xp is a heck of a saw. Revs to the Moon and gets there quick. Probably the best 60cc saw made today (362 is nice, but it is not a 562 and I am a Big Stihl guy)

That 562 is gonna feel nose heavy with 24", but can be ran with it and Full chisel. Or run full skip or semi skip and be able to lean on it a little more :)

    Afterthought........

The reduction in cutters with skip means slightly less weight. I wonder if you got a "Light" bar and and put full skip on it, and weighed it against full comp and a Standard 24" bar? What the difference would actually be in overall weight?
How much difference in nose "dive" would it feel??

Gives me a good excuse to buy another bar and a couple chains  The Wife isn't gonna like this idea

Dexter I wish I could say I understood everything you just said but I am not up on all the chainsaw knowledge. I get the general idea but guess I have lots of learning to do. Thanks for the info!

I'll save you some marital strife Dex. BTDT with the 460s and there was no perceptible difference in feel between the two chains. The light bar however makes an incredible difference.
The (mostly) stock 562 I ran at Spikes was a full wrap handle wearing a 24" techlite and it handled pretty decent. You were wishing for another 10ccs tho. ;)

I ran Spike's ported 562 with a 20" bar and have decided that it will more than likely be my next saw, either that or a 90 cc or both:D

In my experience, if you over buck or finish off a cut from the other side, I haven't found enough difference between what you can cut with a 20" bar and a 24" for it to be much of a factor in saw selection. As others have said, if you really NEED a 24" bar, consider a techlite......... but by all means, grab the 562, just plan on it wearing a 20" most of the time.

Not to derail the OP , but is there a 24" techlite available ? All I've been able to find is the 20&28" . A 24" would be great if they are available !

You seem to be right, maybe that 562 was wearing a 28" Techlite. My memory has been, off, lately. :emb:

562XP full wrap handle wearing a 28" techlite? PNW Special Edition anyone? :p

Tech lite only makesva 20" and 28".

Making a 24" would more than double there business, as 24" is one of the most common bar sizes on a large Pro saw (next to 20"). :)

I run a ported 562 from T Landrum's place... It OWNS a 24" bar... It would run a 28" tech lite if I needed it to. I normally run a 20" bar on it though, cause a 7900 and 385 just look silly with the 20 on em'...
Even in stock form, they are a really fantastic saw...

Not to mention they're the sexiest dang saw out there...

I ran a 359 for a year or so. Had a 20 inch and 24 inch bar. The 24 would run through oaks fine, but you did have to lift off the cut every so often. The 20 was a better match for a regular use bar. I find the 24 to be cumbersome as an all around bar, limbing to bucking.

if you are going to leave the saw stock I wouldn't run a 24'' bar on it. although it would run it ,it would not be happy with it. now if you sent it in for porting ,that's a different story. ported it will run the 24 with some athourity when needed.

I know Spike's 562 was one impressive machine Terry! Liked his 372 quite a bit too!

More power, the saw runs cooler, makes your buddies jealous, keeps the bears away and did I mention mo' power?
