Not disagreeing bocefus78 ice melt works great at lower Temps and on flat surfaces! The stuff they sell here is round little balls you throw that on smooth ice on hill (8% grade or better) you watch it roll down hill.. what happens is flat spot is clear and hill is a sheet of ice.. Brother has plow contracts.. from Walmart to senior centers. Why we keep the oblong water salt on hand, moreover in an ice storm everyone runs out of ice melt but you can still find water softener salt:handshake:

Understood sir. Things are surely different in the great white north. Here, we pretreat the ice melt by getting it wet with a brine solution. Then it sticks to the ice instead of rolling off. But they call us flatlanders lmao. Our hills are small molehills.

And yes, supply is an issue everywhere. That particular storm I paid a guy $30 an hour to drive around and buy every bag available within 50 miles. I had a 4 car garage full of the stuff and used every bag. People couldn't get their wallets out fast enough.

Example. On 1 driveway, big hill, exposed ag concrete, I used 600lbs of ice melt. 5 man hours to clear it. His bill was well North of $1000, and he told me I didn't charge enough. Dude was a doctor, and was on call. He HAD to be able to leave the house. No matter the cost.

Anyways, you all stay safe. I'm headed to work.

Light snow all day so far. Might leave the company car parked and take the Bronco when I go to my office to take them to lunch.

The snow is starting to build up slow but sure. Roads are nasty slippery. Plows are out now. Brought my Mom some stuff she needed. I have all groceries needed for the next week, bought, brought home and put away. I have all my running around done. Time to stay home, do some exercise, a little cleaning and organizing, and a lot of relaxing/FHC surfing.

Warm air aloft will drop rain tonight and freeze with colder air in place at the ground level. Reports say a good part of tomorrow is going to be icy. Probably best to leave the snow on walks and driveways until it is finished.

I learned something today about natural gas. Our kitchen stove burners have had an orange flame for the last couple of days. I called the gas company, and a service tech arrived within the hour, which was pretty impressive. He said an orange flame may mean low gas pressure, in other words, a leak. But, he pointed to the little humidifier on the table, and asked if the orange flame began at the same time we began using the humidifier. Yes! Are we running it with tap water? Yes! So, the explanation he gave us was, the ionized salts and minerals released into the air by the humidifier are burned in the gas flame, causing the color change. He said it decreases the heat of the flame slightly, but not enough so we would notice it in our bill.

Just warmed myself up a bit moving some maple, oak, and locust onto the porch ahead of the storm.

I was just on the phone with one of the sales managers from a dealership that I sell to, discussing discounts for the coming year.

While I'm on the phone my daughter comes downstairs

"Mama, I have something for you"
    Wife: what is it?
    "Poop"

I look over and see her standing at the gate to her play room holding a bowl full of a turd that looks like it could have come from me. Wife and other daughter loudly lose it while I'm trying to get them to stfu pointing to the phone.

Yep, I'm done with work until next year. That sounds so good to say.

I'm going to relax for a couple of days, then do some firewood work.

  Sure as chit...... Isn’t technology great?! I just got a big one delivered here a few minutes ago. Because I spent over $25 it was free delivery. And it was three things that added up to some weight. Can’t beat that.
