The Blakes has it place too (I like it if needed for a lanyard adjuster), bit for climbing, nothing beats a VT in my opinion. I love the fact that one extra wrap can make it bight all the harder, u use a longer prusic rope if you're gonna make extra wraps.
Off the top of my head I can't remember, but if I recall it's something like 28-30"....... Remind me later and I'll measure it.
The ocean prusik tree stuff sent me was 30” eye to eye seems pretty good length wise I just need to figure the best variation of the knot to be happy with it
Ive wanted to mention something about safety a few times here, and I'd like to mention something about this tree, and what I've written here for you younger climbers, and anyone who might stumble upon this in the future. This wasn't a tree that I would send a rookie or even journeyman climber up into. Climbing a dead standing tree takes an already dangerous task and turns the dial to 11. I've climbed "a lot" of trees, and I'd hate to hear that someone saw something I did and said well if that idiot can do it I can. Just because I made it look easy doesn't mean it was. I'd hate to say where's so and so down the road, and hear they don't come around anymore because they saw something I did and got hurt. Climb safe, climb smart gentlemen. Mike you would be best served finding a TCIA or ISA sanctioned class in your area. Heck even Cornell offers classes aimed at the recreational tree climber... Find a mentor that way and do not try and learn via google. Okay safety rant off. Now back to your regularly scheduled climbing b.s.ing
It was a pleasure meeting you this weekend and thank you for the work you did. Like I told you after the trees were on the ground, if you don't know what you are doing, you sure fooled a few of us this weekend. Great job and there was definitely a relief that the worrisome trees are on the ground. You can come back up anytime you want to help split all this stuff you put on the ground.
Elyse and I talked Sunday after you guys left and we both noticed the safety side of your work to #1 and most important you in the tree and #2 everyone/ everything on the ground before the cut. When you started slipping in the tree, you didn't make a dangerous job worse, you figured out plan b or c or d. Elyse was disappointed that you didn't yell "TIMBER" though.
Barcroftb Yep Big Disappointment. No Flannel, no TIMBER, Short beard and no axe to cut the tree. I tried to tell her that DexterDay banned the Brauny Paper towel guy so he wouldn't come and help, you were what we had to settle for.
We had a little leaner Hemlock on a Beech that was cracked at the base. So a little tugging action from a winch on the Beech and the Hemlock and top half of another dead standing beech all came down in a glorious crash!! This is what the base of that little cracked beech looked like. He is definitely always veering towards more safe than less safe. And where I work? It's always safety 1st in every regard. So seeing that side of him impresses me. But she did want to hear TIMBER!! I think he heard his name.
