Wondering what this tree is...I have a little bit of it in my stacks; orange-ish wood, and not a great fuel wood.
Whatever it is......looks to have a bit of PI attached. My immediate thought was Cherry, but not sure.
Looks like cherry to me. with a little PI Around here, if that tree is over, say, 12" at the stump, it will have ants in it
Black Cherry. Not great fuel wood, but great smoking/smelling wood. It always leaves a lot of coals for me, so I have to give it more air than normal.
I've burned 99% cherry in the last six weeks. One full cord. Works great in my IS. But yes, it makes a lot of ashes. More than any other wood I've used so far. Not a big deal with the ash pan on the IS
Even more than black walnut? I've been burning both in my smoke dragon. Walnut has been getting most of the blame for the ashes. They are both taking the blame for the mess they leave on the hearth.
Cherry. If you don't like it you could send it my way. I burn quite a bit of it and have always enjoyed the heat and the aroma that it gives off.
We have allot of the "smooth" bark variety here. As you go up the trunk the bark typically gets smoother. Either way it burns and smells good, splits easy and dries fast. Some I got last spring.
Here that is called choke cherry whereas the other is black cherry. Both are good for wildlife, especially deer, turkey, coon and possom.
