Nice score!! CSS that stuff will last longer than we do, get all you can. Ash trees are pretty well gone around here, real shame too. They'll not be back in my lifetime.
Thinking about it...there are power lines within range, but I'm pretty sure I can fell them where I want them to go. May just let the utility company take them down when they get around to it, and I've garnered enough good will with the lady that she's already promised the wood to me
They probably watch CNN which makes mountains out of not only molehills but pure fantasy, so it's really not shocking they see a winter's worth of heat in a twig.
Old timers around here call ash the king of firewood , cut it in the mornin burn it in the afternoon. I don't buy into that I like a little more seasoning.
I have, out of desperation. It was a live White Ash tree years back, it did burn, but not great. Cut & burned in Jan Feb, so as dry as a live tree can be. Got me by, but 1 to 2 yr seasoned Ash is a great firewood.
I have about 2 cords from a living tree that I cut last February and stacked out in the wind and sun...tested it in October, and it was 14%! Burned a load last night, and it was still chugging away in the morning, with the house at 72. I'm a believer!
I have been taking down the dead Ash and cleaning up the downed ones on my woodlot it seems like they are all 6" to 8" dia. makes for great firewood. Still have some that have not been infected. Yet anyway! If they do I guess I they too will be firewood!
Finally put a couple hours on the new splitter and made a little headway on the pile today...the DHT 25-tonner chewed through every gnarly knot and crotch very well with just a few RPMs less than a regular split. I'm very impressed with this thing so far, except for the actuating lever's mechanism...could definitely be smoother.
Same here where I'm at. I've got enough ash to last me ten years I think so much is dead, on the ground or what I've got to cut. I miss my shade Trees but on another note it's good firewood... Sent from my 0PM92 using Tapatalk
We have hundreds of dead ash on our property very very sad indeed. BUT, I can vouch for the above: if you find one that's fallen and its branches have kept it off the ground for a while, they can be very dry. One fell over one of our service roads this fall like that and was only down for a week or so. Bark still on it, not too far gone. I licked my chops and got out the saw and had at. It came inside the same day at ~18%...
We too did that out of desperation only I bought some from a "friend" who said it was all very dry. Ha! He cut and split it the same day and then brought it over. We burned it all one winter (this was after I was injured so could not do my own). We got through but it was not good.
