A guy at my real job brought me a load of box elder. It was free and I didn't have to start a saw. My wife also let me buy a new 461. I ordered the bigger dual felling dogs for it and took the issued dog off and put it on my 311.
I paint everything I take in the woods with blue. #1 it's my favorite color. #2 I'm red/green color blind so stuff disappears in the woods during spring/summer months if I don't.
I dont really like dogs that big, but thats just my preference. The hardwoods around here dont have bark that thick. Seems like dogs that big just reduce the bar length. You are going to love that 461!
You're right it does reduce usable bar length. But I don't need 32" to cut lol. Also my part time gig is tree work so after about hour 3-4 it's nice to jam the spikes into the wood and let the saw hold it's self up as i cut
The dealership filled it. Should I run it or dump it? I usually use belray h1r at 45:1. Should I mix up the stihl ultra I bought with it to extend the warranty at 45:1 (50:1gets too hot I don't care what the manual says all my saws get hard starting at 50:1 after a tank or two running,40-45:1 no issues I have no issues even at full squirt the entire time)?
Jeesh it is nice to know I am not the only one that runs over his chainsaws...and I am not color blind. (My father and sister are however). Sorry to hear about your busted saw,but glad to hear you got a MS 461 Stihl. Nice saw...I loved mine, but ran over it, then bought a Husky 562. That was a mistake. :-(
Hahaha, my wife ran over my new Stihl 026 back in the day. This was after I told her right where to park her truck, away from where I was working to clear our new house lot. I still remind from time to time, I won't repeat what her response usually is
Lucky for me, all I did was break the chain brake and crack the side cover. I replaced all the parts and was good to go
I didn't get a new saw lately, but I do paint most of my tools blue. I am not color blind but that blue is not natural and shows up in the woods vividly, in any season. Haven't done it to my saws yet but most of the hand tools have gotten painted. I have a LogRite pickaroon and try to duplicate their color with rattle-can paint as best I can.
I really like my 461 with the bigger duel dogs. The big dogs really help when felling and taking large stumps down. I just replaced my full skip round chain with a full skip square ground, but haven't had time to see how much difference square ground makes. I'm also a little nerves to learn how to file the square ground chain. I've watched all the tutorials on FHC... I guess I'm just going to have to give it a shot and figure it out!
