On Sunday. Did the job for a buddy of mine (the one who was in the car accident a while back). One was a huge tree, we saved the 25" butt log to be milled...... Also blocked up the huge crotch and saved the innards of it.......Some beautiful grain in that crotch! I have videos I filmed of running the 064 as well as cwn877's Echo 610evl twin cylinder, but I'm having trouble uploading them to YouTube....I had the camera set up on the best resolution and the files are pretty big. I'll try editing them later. All told, we ended up with three heaping trailer loads of wood, from 5 cherry trees..... cwn877 (better known as Chris around here) It was easy to load the trailers with this toy.....I want one!! Some of the cherry rounds and my Stihl 064 wearing the 25" Archer Pro bar.... The beautiful butt log.....I cut that crotch off and blocked it up. I'll post some pics of it later. Ended up with a 12' log, 24"diameter.....One hell of a nice saw log.
Nice work S.O., looks like you had a nice day too. That log will make for some nice boards, I'm looking forward to seeing them. This year will be my first for milling some Cherry.
We may end up selling that log, Woody.... At this moment I don't have anywhere to store the boards, there'll be lots more wood this year, though!
Looks like a fun job. Man, I am itching to get back at it. Got three maples that need split and a truck that needs fixed before I can have too much fun, though. Looking at only 4-5 cords to get this year.
Review on that Archer bar?? I ended up going Stihl on mine, but that price tag on the bay was sooooo tempting!
Got that one on ebay for 40 bucks with shipping.....I'd say every bit as good as an ES bar. It may be just a TAD heavier, but it's a machined bar and made of good steel.....I've been hammering that bar since late October and the rails are holding up just fine......
I love cutting cherry. Smells great and makes the saw seem like it is running extra good. That crotch will have some beautiful character in the grain.
