Well, Maine has dooryards. I had never heard that one and no idea what that was until I started working with Mainers.

Now those of us from Boston, we have no odd terms for anything 'cept the Packy :p

Mainers also "meet" other cars on the road-that one really had me puzzled.

And no, it doesnt mean they hit each other

Got about 6", there are lots of paper roads in Maine they exist only on a map and are otherwise called trees. Now there are real paper roads some of which have names but most are numbered and are true paper roads owned by pulp wood companies or board wood companies. Then there are private roads and really long driveways. I'm on a long driveway off of two other driveways. The road is uphill in both directions. Not fun when the ground is ice covered. We try to avoid deliveries after the first of December and before April 1 but it is kept snow free. Large snowblowers do an excellent job.

There were a lot of roads that my father and I hunted that are now two lanes and paved that were summer only single lane and dirt. There were turn outs every so often so cars could get past each other. In the fall you made sure to carry saws or axes in the car just in case.

Oh ok, now it makes sense that you would "meet" another car. Now that I think of it, the first time I heard the term was from someone that originally was from Presque Isle

Cats are not happy with the situation outside. Sun makes it look inviting, but the 5" of uncleared stuff changes their mind real quick. After 2 attempts by my big male orange tomcat, he is now curled up in bed.

Time for dad to get outside and start cleaning up shortly

I got about 4". Looks like a good storm for Tuesday. My fault, I had a dentist appointment scheduled for the morning. I already called and left a message to reschedule. I'll go to work, but I leave the house early enough that I won't have to worry about thousands of idiots. Am not going to get in the mess of idiots to make it to an 8 AM appointment though!

Maybe that's because you aren't in my area. That was one of the first weird sayings I heard when I moved here in 1987. That from life-long Monadnock region dwellers. Heck, I find myself using that sometimes and immediately cringe :picard:

Oh, the big orange tomcat is the same one that had to have all but 2 of his teeth out at this time last year. The big guy is a new cat now. Happy now, very active again, healthy and after his gums healed he eats more than ever with no issues whatsoever-including dry kibble.

Still a little concerned about his going outside with no teeth for defense, but that too isnt an issue. He still has his claws, and he does have his 2 front upper teeth. He still hunts and leaves presents in the driveway or garage. Seeing that there is no way that he will be in all indoor cat, I guess if something big enough to get him does so, his teeth probably wouldnt matter.

Overall, the important part is he is a happy healthy cat again. For a long time before tooth removal he was getting worse and worse.
