Welcome to the forum Mykidsdadd We too use a pickeroon but rarely for picking up a log. Yes, you can use them that way but that's not the best way. We use them for rolling logs or for reaching for logs that are out of arm's length. For picking up logs, you simply can not beat these: These things will save you tons of work! In addition, they can save your back too. Pickeroons are a nice tool but not necessarily for picking up rounds.
Thanks for the info and welcome! Only pick up small rounds with them nothing large. But yeah I see you exactly what you’re saying. I have been thinking about a set of tongs, I’ve done no research on that yet, Figure I should wait till after Christmas. If I start looking into something I’ll probably on it in the next week or two.
On the Husky's don't get the small pair! Only the large and don't let them fool you as you can pick up a much larger log than the width of the tong. They are super!
The answer somewhat does depend upon the bark of the log. The rougher the bark the easier to grab even big logs. I don't think I've picked up anything over 32" though. On the big logs, it does help to keep the tips sharp which is quick and easily done.

Since it's Christmas and all, check out the LogOx. I got one and wrote a review here, and several others have them too. I think it' a great tool. As for the hookaroon specifically, I have the Fiskars and like it. Sounds like you got a defective one for one reason or another, but I'm sure LogRite will rectify it for you. Welcome to the group!
Update, sort of. Can’t say what changed other than I did take a 3# to the pin as I felt it had too much “hook” to it. Works as should now. Love the length and overall feel over my old one. That said , Logrite has yet to reply to my email to them. Not too pleased about that. It was submitted to them last Thursday. I have seen many positive things about the company and not trying to be negative but , they have had time to reply and it is apparent to me it was somewhat of a defect out of the box in my opinion. I wonder if I have compromised the integrity of the pin by bashing it with a hammer , either way I will use it until something breaks. I will post if I hear from them but that is strike two for me for the company. Which sucks because I have been seriously looking at their can’t hook. Wondering if the Logox brand can’t hook may be the way to go.
On cant hooks and pickeroons, I still much prefer a wood handle. Sorry, the pictures are a bit out of line size wise. The cant hook is really much larger than the pickeroon. My cant hook has a 48" handle while the pickeroon has a 36" handle.
I have a Logrite pickaroon. I have personally met with the owners of the company through another forum and find them to be great people and they manufacture nice stuff. No idea about their customer service though. That being said - I think the pickeroon hook design is a failure. I have a very hard time getting mine to 'grab' in anything other than very soft wood (i.e. pine, basswood, or punky stuff). I gave up on it until I can figure out a way to reshape the hook into something that has a better bite. The only time I use it anymore is to pull pieces out of the back of my truck, which isn't often. Even then, the hook will either not bite, or will slide right out of the wood. I also have an orange pulp hook with a replaceable tip, which has a much different design. It is squared off, has a small lip or tooth on it, and does not have a sharp point. That thing grips tenaciously and I often have to twist it out of the wood.
