Storing Your Wood Splitter?

Yeah, I agree! I always cover the motor for sure!

 

I love the power wagon, if it didn't run so damm great I'd buy a new one! Save my back so many times! It can haul so much weight too. Mine is just over 18 years old, just replaced the clutch and some cables and that's it. But that is also stored inside when not in use.

 

Yeah, I realized that. I'm not really 100% into selling it so I put a high price tag on it, if it sells, great! If not, I'm just going to keep it and use it as much as I can until I can't. Then my kids can decide what to do with it. I took it off of the other sale sights, taking it of CL tomorrow.

 

Why yes I do, I paid too much for it a few years ago and stored it inside for 2 years while I was sick and now I knocked off over $400. for being slightly used. I know it won't sell when I'm competing with TSC selling them for $700. I'm okay with keeping it at this point which is why I'm asking for storage advice. No more room in the shed....

 

Now that's what I'm talking about my friend!!!!! More S.F. is needed, ASAP!!! I wish that were possible, wishful but not possible. But Great Idea none the less!

 

My wife got her foot crushed at work about 9 years ago. She is now walking with a cane and at a store can walk with a shopping cart. She doesn't want to spend the money but I keep telling her that would be perfect for her for her gardening and chores. Yes it would be stored inside. When I get pictures of my wood splitter it will be more apparent why it is kept outside.

 

I’m sure we’d all like more garage and or shed space right? Lol. With no funds to build a garage for a nice truck I bought last summer I think I’ll put together a car port and then add the full sides and the back end when money allows. I get a bit nervous when it looks like we can get hail in a storm, at least then it would be protected from that.

 

Looks like the same cover, I was able to get mine to fit over the whole thing, including the log catcher, except for the tires, I have some short ropes with tarp hooks that go under the axles to hold it on there better.
There is air flow from underneath so there is no moisture being trapped, I have had no rusting or ill effects with this cover.

 

Yeah that sounds scary, nothing worse than hail! A car port sounds like a great idea, and much cheaper than a garage.

 

That's perfect, I'd be perfectly happy with something like that. I'll look around for something this weekend. I clearing some pallets and making some room behind the shed to store the splitter, then I'll worry about a good cover for it. Thanks for the pics!

 

I saw this thread and thought about it today when I was out fetching wood.
This is the one I bought,

I stuck a 20-inch bicycle tire onto the log catcher so the corners would not poke holes in the cover

 

Actually, just the opposite...empty metal tanks can rust BIG DOG style, even when stored inside! The best thing to do with metal tanks (especially those high dollar motorcycle tanks!) is to store them completely full of E free fuel treated with stabilizer...
Any engine stored outside long term also needs to be fogged to remain rust free internally...

Well, see if you can find the engine for my splitter. The control valves, lift and wedge are pretty apparent.

I have to say, that is very unique and pretty inventive! I love it!!

 

I got the idea from the "Farm Show" magazine years ago. The truck was my oldest daughter's first vehicle. She actually flipped it end over end when the brake disc broke and the caliper locked through it. Both daughters were in it and walked away with no broken bones. I owe that truck. So, 4 wheel drive, splitter on front, dump bed, elevator to bed or can spin and load a truck or trailer along side. I would now change some things. The hood gets beat up with great big rounds (40" or bigger). But it does the job well and for some reason causes people to stop and look at it!
