    Hey, no problem- two people giving info. and trying to help is even better than one. Besides, you provided a very useful photo, which I did not. It is a community effort IMO.

    You can jump the blower on the furnace and force it to come on without the plenum being hot, and it will not interfere with the normal behavior of the furnace.

    That said, running that big blower all the time is going to be expensive and cause a lot of wear 'n tear so I would suggest some kind of timed interval where you run the blower for, say, 3 or 4 minutes every hour. Those times can be adjsuted to find a happy medium between expense and spreading the heat. A time delay relay is all that would be needed to do this and it could be wired into the furnace blower fairly easily if you are handy with electrical things.

    Of course the hole in the wall with the 'helper' fan will also go a long way to distribute heat as well.

    yooperdave I had that discussion with state fire Marshall after my electrical fire.. he stressed 3 times no open airways between levels.. I made a snide comment about government rules etc.. He then expressed how they had done research and if fireblocked it could save such and such a percent.. biggest problem in multi stories homes...

    to which I replied stairs? elevators really...

    Currently my thermostat is not wired to run the fan only. I tried it the other day. The book didn't help me, but that is not my area. My cousin is good at those things. I'm sure its just a matter of the right color wire to the right connector on the thermostat.

    Try taking the panel off the back of your furnace and see if that lets cold air from the main level return back to the stove room.

    You are presuming that we have cold air returns. :) Nope. There is so much wrong with this house. My best course of action would be to dismantle it and donate anything, and sell the granite for profit. Then build something new with an open floor plan that would allow me to heat with my wood stove. Then put in mini-splits for a backup and AC.

    Nope!

    Take the panel off and see if the air returns through the supply ducts...:)

    Depending on how recent your furnace is.....or how old it is; it may not have a terminal strip. Low Voltage wiring for T-stat is

    R=power
    W=heating
    Y=cooling
    G=fan(blower motor)
    C=ground/common

    My chair. I’d like to get a recliner but I think wifey would have issues with that...

    Oh yeah no messing around now bro. But bring that little one down there when they are here. You’ll be teaching them how much fire is important. Sure the warmth will be well received too.

    You would have to find and jump the blower wires at the furnace, not the thermostat. The thermostat controls the firing device, not the blower.

    Once you got to the wires that control the blower at the furnace, you would jump a timer into that circuit in parallel. That way, either the timer you installed, or the furnace plenum temperature could run the furnace so it would work as it always did as well as cycling on and off when your timer turned on and off.

    Just curious, and it is really none of my business but..... I noticed a tape measure on the chair. What is it that you usually measure while sitting alone, watching the fire?
