I realize this is going to come off like a humble brag, but my wood stove is going such a great job of heating the house that I haven't even run the heat pump this season. We've already had overnight temps down to the low teens, and the stove kept the upstairs bedrooms at 73 degrees. The room where the stove resides was 77 when I came downstairs in the morning.

Do I need to run the heat pump periodically for maintenance-sake, or is it ok to let it remain dormant all winter?

It wont hurt but do you run your ac in the middle of winter just to make sure it is working?

No, but I may go years without running the heat pump at this rate.

So awesome...burning wood is so much fun that I'm looking into a wood gasification generator for the AC in the summer!
