This red alder in the back of my property is waaaay dead. I'd like to bring it down mostly because it's right next to my trail. It has an obvious lean, but because of the rot, I don't want to put a saw in it. Heavy equipment is not an option. I'm thinking of getting a strap on it as high as I can and trying to pull it down. Just today I noticed a horizontal hairline crack on the back side of it about chest high. Thoughts?
It might depend upon how high you can get the connection and how are you going to get up there to tie things in?
My redneck engineering skills are second to none. First tug, the top broke off. Second tug, the whole thing fell.
Whew that explains what our wet climate does to trees around here. Enough said. You might just let that crumble in your garden if you got one or the mulch bin.
