Sugi's are possibly the hardest and longest lasting bars out there from what ive read. New ones are too rich for my blood. And they rarely get sold as used. I do have a few rebranded tsumuras though
I have looked at them online. I have been using the Stihl light es bars. They are 1/3 the weight of the normal bar. They balance the saws out so well. The sugi's online are cheaper than my local Stihl dealer. I like having a good local small business and am guilty of buying there. He does not carry Sugi. He is all Stihl, he has been good to me, I am loyal.
Businesses up there depend on guys like you. Michigan's upper penninsula would struggle more without the snowmobile and atv community
I remember the Wal-Mart effect on small towns years ago. No one likes over paying, I do like have a damm good, well stocked dealer a few miles away. He has pull a lot of NOS parts for my 034 super and 036's. That kind of inventory is not cheap or free.
That is what I do for work chain anymore. Files aren't cheep. Just need whatever the raker height is sharp down the side plate. But for learning you need to see a clear corner. Then after that we can address side plate lean.
I've not known life without Wal-Mart. Mom worked there from when I was little till she retired last year.
Good to hear I am not the only one not wanting to waste perfectly good chain. I will bring another saw and chain to work tomorrow. And have another go at it.
huskihl Looks like the saw make it to the post office today. I will bring her into work. I will stop by and pick up a sprocket, bar and chain. 16-20 inch bar what are you recommending. I may just stay with 20, keep things common.
Your angle of the files seems to be a few degrees off of being inline with the chain. My angle for the file is way more to the outside of the tooth. I was more of 25-35* from inline.
Just thought of something to watch out for when converting... The point of the cutter can hang the file and chip it. I'll start with a slightly lower angle (up & down) then bring it up after a stroke or two.
