I currently burn Envi Blocks. Before that we burned the Envi-8's which were about the size of a brick. We started on Bio-bricks. My experienced has been positive. Though the Envi products have been far superior. More expensive than wood as they are ready to burn. On par with pellets. Equal to a cord to a cord and a 1/2 on average. Harder to store in my case as you need a dry spot to put the pallet. Which I don't have. On average I pay $295/ton. I go pick them up myself. For me this has been a bit of a challenge lately. My dad got sold his truck. Now I have borrow a truck or split them between our Ford Explorer and my dad's mini-van. It works. One major plus is that the chimney is very clean. Each time I've gone to inspect/clean it, there has been little to no build up. They burn clean so long as you get your wood stove up to the proper temps. Jason from RI
recently bought 21 packs of redstone from TSC. purchase was the large block/3 pack. while they burn ok, i do not like them. lousy fit in jotul f100, awkward to handle, and soft edges prone to breaking when one handing them at 6-7#s. had one give way the other night, scary, as it fell half in half out of stove. NOT FUN!!! will never buy again and use balance sparingly. no association with Redstone
I've burned them in the past. Personally I don't like them. Then are not the same product as the Envi block/bricks. The TSC product if we are talking about the same thing is more of a cardboard feeling product.
I picked mine up at the distributor. I’m running them as we speak and have some interesting data for the review.
Hi Grizzly! Don’t worry, I have NOT forgotten about you! . Last time we spoke by PM, you indicated that you were pretty much done burning for the season. I’ve had you in the back of my mind during the summer months. Now that we’re easing our way back into cooler weather, I’ll be sending you off some samples to try.
Well , I'll throw my hat in ! I'm originally from that area , I'm wiling to test . I can even arrange pickup .
I'm in Halifax but I'm from Clare and chased the girls around that area a few "cough" years ago lol My old man was a district superintendent for BWMP back in the day , I remember when that plant was built , a sardine plant if recall lol
That’s great to hear! Small world, isn’t it? And yes sir, many years ago it was a sardine plant. You’re dating yourself with your knowledge. I’ll send you a PM and be happy to set you up with some samples to try out!
I can tell all you guys that from being originally from that area that this is not a flyby night operation , they've been in business for many years and are a standup company . I burn a lot of spruce , fir , pine in the shoulder season and birch , maple , beach and a bit of oak in the cold months . I know my burn times for the outside temps and indoor temps plus the amount of ash for burn time that soft vrs hard will get me . I've not burnt coal or anything bio in my Kerr furnace but I'll do my best to give a fair evaluation on heat/burn time and ash content .
I have burned redstone fuel blocks, the six packs, from Tractor Supply they put out some serious heat for a long time, they won't leave you with coals for a restart though, I prefer burning them mixed with cord wood
A little crumbly but not much, don't know what you got, all the ones I had were pretty solid, if they get damp they will start to get crumbly. They are less messy than all the crap that falls off a cord of wood
From what I understand the bigger ones from redstone in the 3-pack are crumbly, never used those, only used the smaller ones that come in a six pack
