Don't know about y'all; but of late I'm only burning starting in the late afternoon, and setting the last load before bed around 10:00pm. It's been mild here in the northern part of "The Peoples Republik of Illinoiz" for most of November. October was really mild also. There were only a couple short stretches in that time where burning 24/7 was required to maintain the temperature in the house. If'n this keep up, I'll be 4 years ahead shortly!!
Our temps are going to get back on track starting around Tue/Wed of next week. Then I'll be thinking of how nice I had it without the constant shoveling!
Ya, pretty much same in southcentral PA too. Daytime temps up in the mid 50s F mean just have an overnight fire and just leave it be for the day. Start up another for the next night. Rough on my kindling box tho.
Be careful what you wish for.........................the Chit is supposed to hit the fan a little later this month, and for Jan. & Feb.. Get your snow shovel ready. What goes around, comes around.........................
I'm convinced the seasons are shifting to the right... 10 years ago we were snowmobiling after New Years till about Apr 1, lately it's more like late-January till closer to May! Maybe it's just me but I really do feel like winter starts later and ends later lately.
Yeah, it's been warm here too. Really just evening fires. Because of all this shoulder season, I'll need to get some more dead standing elms, along with box elder and cherry in my stacks. As to a later winter? I don't see that around here. The last few years our snowmobiling seasons have ended in early March, if barely into March.
I've been burning 24/7 in the owb for the better part of a month, and it's been almost exclusively softwood. I love it, because most of the time I don't have to go anywhere to get it - it just lands in the yard from a tree service buddy who considers it a huge favor that I take it off his hands.
17 years ago I spent the Y2K doomsday in the woods of Maine snowmobiling, and from what I remember, it was good riding too
I am averaging about 6 bags a week. Not bad for this time of year. Jan and Feb, I average 1.5 bags a day.
Now that you said it and so did he...a Merry Christmas blanket will pummel his area. You’re doomed now for saying it MightyWhitey!
I thought I was the only one that believed this. Definitely. We'll only get one or two cold snaps here. One or two measurable amounts of snow that will melt in a day and one blizzard that will make everyone miserable and melt in a couple days. I think most of it is climate change but yes, I think we need to shift the calendar up, like one month. Except for letting the fire burn out on Thanksgiving and the weekend before (at my parents both time), I've kept it going. It's easier than restaring it every night. I just throw an all-nighter on before I go to work in the morning.
It does sound as if most of us will be burning more wood this coming week but nothing certain too much yet about if we'll get much snow or not this winter. It has been several years here since we've had a heavy snow winter. We can live with it either way. Some really good guys came here Saturday and one thing they did do for us was to put the snow blade on the atv so my wife can push snow if it does need done. She's only done this one time so far but did a good job so I'm not concerned.
Sorry sir! I have trouble remembering sometimes we do have pellet stoves on this. Haha I was thinking either like softwood cut offs from someone you know in the business end. Carry on lad!
