I overheard a parent/child conversation in the grocery checkout line today. The child asked, why some people burn wood in their house to stay warm, and the parent answered, poor people burn wood for heat. I had a funny feeling the conversation started because the child saw my trailer full of wood on the way into the store. I only had one item so I was right behind them on the way out and sure enough they were parked right beside me. The child was watching me closely, I just gave a big smile.
Poor people only buy one item at the grocery store. Wealthy people get that one item at the convenience store, or better yet send the house help to retrieve that item for them.
Momma just continued another poorly informed preconceived notion. That poor child is being conditioned to think that "things" are the stuff of life.
Should have went out to the parking lot entrance and held up a "family freezing, will work for firewood" sign! Edit: would probably work the best if you had some forlorn scraggly homeless lookin dog with you
Momma also probably tells the kid, "you better be good or I'll tell that policeman over there to put you in jail"
If she only knew the investment to burn wood! You can get into it pretty cheaply but can also spend a lot of coin. I would say we're cheap yes, poor not so much. Think of how much shes probably paying for a gym membership, we get it free. How much she has to pay a shrink/therapist, we get free stress relief and therapy. And so on
What's even funnier is that people think it's cool to dress like you know how to use a chainsaw and make firewood. Also have you seen that artisinal firewood? That stuff is expensive!
