This has been one long and cold winter. We are getting a warm up for the weekend. Might even hit 50°. Then it gets cold again.

Mon Mar 10 A snow shower possible 30°Lo 16° Tue Mar 11 A little snow at times 27°Lo 3° more Wed Mar 12 Mostly sunny and very cold 21°Lo 9° more Thu Mar 13 Mainly cloudy and cold 26°Lo 14° more Fri Mar 14 Cold with fluffy snow 25°Lo 11° more I better start cutting what I can real soon.
It is -12° on the back porch and it is March 6th! WTF? The Wood Gun went through a whole chamber full of Ash in 8 hours no problem and the oil boiler kicked on. Fortunately the boiler is still 168° and it won't take long for it to catch back up. When will we be going for our first swim this year?
-13 F our low today at 5 AM previous record low -2F In 2008 my 5 year old grandson from Maui went in the water in early March, lots of snow still on the ground and the ice a week out of the lake. He wouldn't believe me that the water could be too cold for him........He actually stayed in a few minutes, basketball shorts and sneakers on. We had winter clothes at the beach for him. My daughter had a fit when she found out : "Mom, I trusted you!" He and his younger brother were having s tough time: his Dad was in the middle of six months of rigorous chemotherapy, following radiation therapy, following surgery for stomach cancer. The swim was a highlight for him. The good news is that his Dad is 5 1/2 years from surgery and well. It was worth the trip to Columbia Presbyterian/ Dr Chabot/ and a year in NY, versus staying in Maui.
-3 at the moment, more Sugar Maple going tonight, we're suppose to hit -8, I think we'll get to -12 or so.
0° this morning on the back porch. I slept in a little today. Ash and a little Maple going through the boiler at the moment.
Actually got above freezing today. Put 40 pounds in the Progress Hybrid at 10 PM last night; put potatoes in on the coals at noon. Vacuumed the cat at 3:30, since I had the stove cold. 6:26 and it is starting to get chilly. Around 7 I'll get a small fire going, and load it with about 40 pounds again about ten tonight for an overnight burn. It's all I need with the milder temps. Looking forward to the next few days, before we get colder again, then after about five days back up to 34 or so with mixed precip for a few days. I don't like mixed precip. Can't seem to get warm on days like that, and a real pain to shovel if there is enough of it that stays on the ground. At any rate, with the amount of snow we have, any rain is going to make for a mess. And more ice, if followed by cold weather. But...the sun is warmer, the potatoes are sprouting, and Spring is definitely coming.
But I do see a little bright light at the end of the temperature tunnel! Suppose to be getting more 30's, a few 40's, and the low's will be staying above 0! YEAH!
Blowing and snow now. Down to 18 degrees. White Ash, some White Pine coming into the mix. Tonight's load will be Ash and a few pieces of Cherry we have come into in the pile. Might get 1-3" tonight through tomorrow. Maybe more.
15º this morning then up to 40º today. The Buck is chewing on some cherry and soft maple right now. Supposed to go down around 20º tonight, I'll have a mix of stuff in the stove. Maybe sugar maple and beech here too or I think I have some oak and hickory by the stove too.
Our forecast has really changed in the last two hours. It is snowing now. Our low last night was 9 F, our high today 25 F. Tuesday is now to be a high of 45f!!! and a low of 32!!!. Above freezing for 24 hours. Have not been above 32 or 33 sinceNov. Then...1 F Thursday. BUT...some warmer weather in the next seven days. I'm ready for it. But not looking forward to the soggy mess when the snow melts and the frost goes out of the ground. Still, will be very pleased to see Spring, which may just show up right on time. Wouldn't that be nice?
The 8-10 is actually 4-8 in the last info I saw. AccuWeather Info, Totals could even approach or top a foot in northern New England, where near-blizzard conditions may evolve. T
