Welp, my generator hasn't made here yet so I contacted the seller and didn't get a response by email within 2 days so I have now contacted amazon. We will see what gives. It susposedly was shipped 11/21 but hasn't made it to the carrier(USPS) yet. Stay tuned more fun and games to be had. I'm a patient sort as you all know.

Yeah, it sux, but I have to take responsibility also - when all this transpired, I was an hour away from the dealer / could not get out there to properly vet the vehicle with driving the Queen and Princess to/from work daily, and had to 'take it on faith' the dealer would do right by us.

Sometimes you have to just put it out there and hope.. I had done some IT work for him gratis over the course of this transaction, he needed more IT work done, thought I had a good relationship with him: he would have gotten work done, at a greatly reduced rate, if the vehicle had been as promised.

More disappointed at this point, vs. full of "fire and brimstone". Waay too busy here to stay jacked-up over it, time to move onward and forward. I do consider being shown the condition of the vehicle / the comprehensive inspection, and getting a sticker on it at all a real gift, at least I know what we're dealing with now. Natalie's not thrilled about it, but she has the '01 Camry daily driver to use, and we have a 2nd vehicle on the road at this point.

re: '96 Camry, it's getting all the love it can get.. Betsy will be jealous.

Time to brave the chill, and get to work.

You say you have no confidence in the Olds, but I had an early one ...'99. The 3.6 motor is a long proven unit, and I had "0" issues with mine for the 3 years I owned it, but you mentioned repairs underneath on yours ("trail-of-rust-and frame patchwork")....that is not the fault of the car but of the previous owner(s). Sounds like it was in a wreck? Also sounds like the dealer was far less than forthcoming on telling you the cars issues.

Agree Pete, the motor runs well, the trans. shifts smooth - most/all the under-body issues were a result of bad lifting by previous mechanics (as explained to me), it was impossible for me to examine w/ the car sitting 6 inches off the ground at time of pickup. Yes, the dealer was 'less than forthcoming' on this purchase. Every trick in the book (power wash motor to conceal leaks, compression fitting used on brake line repair, etc.)

Body / panels on top are in decent shape, and gave no indication of the carnage underneath.. It is what it is.

Rear pass. trailing arm bracket to frame looks real crusty - will need to be torched-out & replaced at some point, in near future. It will be a strictly local (town & back) vehicle, until that happens.

Maybe but by then the 2.8L left a bad taste for me and I had moved on to Mazda and then Subaru which were both bullet proof engines at the time
