I run a 545 and love it, I use a Stihl 180 for smaller stuff and HATE it, so I'm thinking of the 435 to replace it.

    $270 and he'll give me $50 for the 180.

    Thoughts?

What's wrong with the Stihl? Unless it's wrecked it will fetch more than $50.

$270 is the going price for the Husky 435 around me, but you can do better.

Husqvarna 240 (16") 38cc Gas Chainsaw - you can go down 3 cc and get this for $200 or get a refurbished 435 off Northen tool for $180.

I'm assuming the 435 is new? It seems to me the 435 and 545 would be to similar of a saw, only 10cc apart and about 1 lb difference in weight, I would think a bigger gap in size and weight would make more sense.

If the Stihl 180 is in decent shape $100 would be a fair price for trade, or I would think you could sell it for $100 no problem.

Yes, new from a dealer, the stihl runs fine the body has been beaten up a good bit.

I wouldn't mind a smaller size saw than the 435,, but it' fairly cheap and seems like it would last better than a small cheaper saw. Kinda partial to a Husqy as I have a good local dealer.

I saw the 240 ,and dealer said I wouldn't like it' life span. I don' know enough about saws to know either way.

The 545 is a detuned pro saw. The 435 is a homeowner clamshell. I just disassembled a 435 to part out and can't see why it commands a premium price over a newer Poulan 42cc. Same with the 450 - can't see a premium price over the Poulan 5020. I only buy Husky 4xx if they are trade-ins on a saw sale or a nonrunner for $20 or less.

The dealer was possibly saying "My profit margin isn't high enough on the 240".
Nothing says a clamshell can't last as long as a mag case build if you take care of it....GOOD TUNE, Good fuel, Pay attention to running condition (ie: air leaks), Keep cyl fins/flywheel fins clean for cooling.

Some good options mentioned already. You might also take a look at the Makita ea3601. I think @CoryB has one.

The 435 is a solid little saw. I have 2 tree services using them for ground saws. (About a 150 saws in service)
They are getting a year to 18 months of service. So pretty good. There are a few areas to keep an eye on. The clutch side crank bearing area can fill with debris so taking the chain guard off and cleaning out around the oiler should be a once a year maintenance for a home owner ( once a week for tree service)
The starter can feel ruff and wear the edges on the starter. Replacing with a whole 440 assembly helps. It is more of hold the saw solid and pull it like you mean it. Waiting for a current version. Just now starting to ship will have a easier starting die to low rpm coil. Any questions just ask and I will do my best to help.

I do like the 3601. It costs a bit more but feels lighter in hand cuts comparatively and starts easier. But does cost a bit more.
