The packed snow on the trail was like concrete this morning so skidding without the sleds could happen. It's a lot faster and easier on this old fella. Got 11 smaller logs out in half the time I slid yesterday's 4 out. Will stack em up tomorrow. Feels good to get most of these 4 ash up and out. Still have plenty of work left getting the good wood out of the tops. And, the area left open now is just waiting for this baby, a 70'-80' red oak. Looks like it's 20' taller than the ash. It's about 15' behind Giz, about 22" dia. It's gonna be a project all by itself. I'll bet it's 1-1/2 cords easy. And, it's going to be a lot heavier than ole Bertha per foot… … might have to hook Giz to it to haul it up. Top of the oak… lotta wood. Weather gal said we may get snow this week. We'll see. I'll work the tops and get my stack piled… and leave the oak alone until that snow… if we get it.
Nice work! That ash will make for some nice firewood and you have a bunch. Nice straight logs too. As far as the tops, I usually cut down to about 2" round and then pile the branches up in a pile to act as a wildlife home. My neighbor brings out every branch down to the last twig and burns them. Probably doesn't matter one way or the other. I had a scarlet oak about that size that yielded just shy of 2 cords.

Thanks… but you know (and I know all Hoarders do), before, when I was younger, work felt like work. I've worked harder these last few days, but it doesn't feel like work at all. More like a trip to nature's gym… I do the same as you, 2" and bigger is all I'll flub with. That open area now will make a nice spot to haul lots of branches and brush to, for a fire next late fall or winter. Yup, this oak is a big one (for me anyway)…

With all this woodcutting/logs/ ATV hauling in the woods pictures, we (I) have high expectations as to the upcoming wood stacks/wood sheds and then the cabin in the wood pictures that we (I) expect are fore coming...
Nice work Stinny getting all those logs skidded to your processing area! I love the tracked ATV too! Our snow is almost completely melted and mud season is coming on quick. I could've used tracks on my tractor today to spread the weight and minimize the ruts I was making.
