Well kinda... My neighbor down the road stopped by to see when I was going to start selling my wood. With all my stacks in the yard he thought for sure I was selling it all He asked if I would sell any to him so I said sure. I gave him about barrel full for $20 of next years silver maple, since he said he was using it for campfires outside. Made him and his son very happy but I gotta say... That was hard to do! Looks like I need to go get more wood now to replace it!
I had some shady characters pull into my drive as I got home from work. They asked if I would sell any wood. Nope, it's to heat my home, I replied. He laughed and said, "That's like your pot stash, personal use, haha," My wife noticed another truck slowly driving by. Told my son to keep a lookout. He's home most weekdays after college classes in the morning. He's also heavily armed and won't hesitate to bust a few caps off.
My brother had two tons of pellets loaded on a trailer in the yard. He looked out in the morning and discovered the whole thing gone. Weeks later, his trailer was found in a parking lot by a beach about 75 miles away. Not uncommon to hear about wood thieves. Best to move it to where it it would be a challenge or too conspicuous to get at.
I always figured the value/effort ratio was just too low to justify stealing firewood. Apparently not everybody can do the calculations.
Well..in the case of the trailer...that was risky, but not very labor intensive. Stealing a couple thousand pounds of split wood is definitely a tough thing to do unless you bring a front end loader and that pretty much makes it not easy anyways. I still worry about thieves
Well, get it replaced yet ? ? LOL Not another wood measurement to keep up with How many barrels in a cord ?
I have the technology to cure that problem..........................if BEAR can't handle it, I can and will. We (local neighborhood watch assn.) have a way to rehabilitate low life thiefs back into society and our record is much better than the criminal justice system. So far, we have had "0" repeat offenders.
I know what you mean Mitch! He stopped by twice and I told him I'd think about it before I finally gave in. It was kinda depressing watching it go
My neighbor just had more silver maples trimmed and piled up for me to swing by and get. Too bad I don't get to do any of the cutting
haven't sold any but have given away a good bit of firewood, feel a lot better about giving it away then selling it
