Mighty mite got a chance to run a little for a change. Still left to split... A little red oak in the same clearing. The RTV loves to work. Happy Thanksgiving FHC!
Heard quite a few shooters today. Our firearms season for deer opens Monday. Everyone is sighting or trying out new guns. It was a beautiful day for splitting. Never broke a sweat.
It has been an ongoing project. Now nearing completion. Finally not at work for some good weather and had to take advantage.
Nice equipment, love the UTV! Nothing better than a nice cool day and some sunshine to heal the soul. Nice load of BTUs there as well!
I was hoping to get out today, but just didn't make it...got to work for an hour or two tomorrow morning then off till Monday. Then probably off a few weeks, so I'll be hitting it hard ! Need to get a few cords in. You know! For 2020-21
Just for fun, I finished off the very last three logs on my place in GA. It was a cool day, and I was only out for about 45 minutes. Felt great, cut about 24 rounds. Next Monday I head to my new place in Virginia, and hoping to fit in many of those rounds in the back of my truck, around my 4 wheeler. Before any of you say I'm crazy for hauling wood 500 miles, I say it's a good load of Locust and Oak logs that were down for 18 months. That would just make me sad to leave it behind. Anything I can't fit is a gift for the new homeowner. I'll even leave him a couple of pallets so the wood can properly season for a couple more years. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
While I agree that is too good to leave behind, there are many laws about moving firewood. Especially across state lines.
Having good tools makes the work more enjoyable for sure. Thought I'd be more stoved up and sore this morning, but so far so good. May even head back and finish off the rest today.
Yeah, there's that. My reply to that is there are logging trucks that traverse a 3 state route daily here. So what's the difference, right? It's enough to make you turn into a hardwood bootlegger!

Oh yeah! Agreed. I've a small amount of red and white in my last hoard. It smells so good fresh split. We can get both bbq and whiskey barrel smell.
My gosh, why'd you have to bring up BBQ AND Whiskey Barrel smell this morning? Well, now I know where I'm heading for lunch- to go put a hurting' on some smoked pig!
So for Virginia, they are looking to combat 3 bugs- mainly emerald ash borer and gypsy moth. You can't bring wood from central VA to western VA (the moth), and you can't bring firewood from home into Shenandoah State Park. It also says you can't bring wood into the state from a quarantine state. I will look a little more to be sure, but I think my oak and locust may be okay!
