It's about 29 out so I'll load up the heater with some pine and then watch The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - IMDb
24° and burninating pine, balsam fir specifically. It sure burns great, but it doesn't leave much coals left after an all night burn. A piece or 2 of beech really leaves a good bed of coals to rechooch in the morning.
I have a bit of balsam fir in my stacks as well. I likely wont grab any again but I was curious. I like you find it burns hot but not for long. Even light pieces feel like they are sub 20%mc even if they arent.
-22* burning the last of the white spruce that I scrounged on the way to work. Should have got more, oh well. 2 more hours.
I think its great that you have such a ready supply of dry wood in the bush. Stump to stove as its often referred to as, is rare to lots of folks. Ive felt lucky that this is what a large portion of my harvesting experiences consist of. We often dont have to harvest green firewood around here and dry it for multiple seasons but I will and do if its high btu wood.
Yep, stump to stove. Agreed, most folks must think its strange. We are really lucky that we don't have to CSS like everyone else.
Larch, stump to stove in the same day last fall. This wasnt a big tree by any means but Id rather deal with this size any day. Its easier on my back!
I bet there are a few here that with their climate will never get 5.9% moister. Looks like most of that will fit in the stove without splitting. I don't split until it get 12+, in the round burns much longer in the Blaze King. Some nice looking forest you have there. Makes me want to put a head light on and go wood scrounge on the way home. Nothing like a few minutes work to warm the house for the day.
fudge im at work right now and ill take my 14f right now hahaha -27 f yuck lol work hard at hardly workn and get home to the heat
28 degrees this morning with light snow. Pine in the boiler. Suppose to be a high of 31 today, but no accumulation of snow.
14 feels like 5 at the moment. Friday will get into the low 40's they say......rain, of course. Hills and trails are taking a beating!
Amen buddy! I don’t have forest around me except out by my parents. But there are a couple of standing dead trees but will require some seasoning before anything goes in a fire. Nice to know this is just doable and for you too Sean! Keep it warm eh!
Speaking of warm... its not even 6 am yet and its 59 degrees F! I do believe weather folks said Pineapple Express was coming through or at least an unseasonably warm front is in. No fire for awhile...
Got about 1" of snow which started last night. Low was forecast to be 22-23. OAT this AM was 30, so I dunno. Some Ash in the 30 right now, with 73 IAT.
Yup shes a big ol' pineapple! We are 2c/35f but dry at the moment. Doug fir is still holding on from last night.
Currently sitting at -13 C feels -19 C, or 8 F feels -2 F. Last night was -28 C with the wind. Did I mention the wind? Looks like some moderate weather is supposed to roll in and stay for awhile in a few days. I guess we'll find out.
Yeah we sure did. Its up to 6c/42 now! Sure is drippy with lots of wet snow laying about. The only good thing about this kind of weather is that I get to clear all the ice off my driveway!
