Gents, Cleaned out the firebox this evening and lit the first fire from a cold start in probably two weeks. Since today was a slow and low burn, there was some creosote burn smell as the fire climbed to cat-active range. As I was standing there waiting to engage the cat, I noticed a few puffs coming from the interface between the stove pipe and the ceiling box adapter. Doesn't seem normal to me, but then again these connections aren't entirely air tight to begin with.
Its been known to happen, rare imo but I'd take the stovepipe off there and check it out with a flashlight.
How's the cap? With a chimney always supposed to be drawing, I'd be worried about a blockage with smoke leakage that far up Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Cap's good...I only have about 45 days on this setup, and was just up on the roof taking a look at everything.
Right..... If there's only a 20 degree difference or less in indoor and outdoor temp, we get negative pressures. My oil kicked on the other day, the house was cold and the temp outside was rising, smoke was actual leaking out of my closed stove from little areas from the oil blower kicking in. It only stopped when i opened the window.
I've had this happen also when the house cooled down and the furnace kicked on while I was getting the fire going in the Fireview. Has happened a time or two with the IS but only on cold starts. My furnace is direct vent and it pulls a lot of air even before it fires off the oil gun. Opening a window is a must on cold starts when the weather is 40-50 degrees and cloudy/humid. I give it a good once over, maybe a little sealant it the connection isn't tight. Probably a wind gust or down draft?
Hmmm...my air handler was running now that you mention it. I have one of those in-plenum humidifiers, and it calls the blower when it kicks on.
I had smoke come out the air intake on the bottom of my stove a couple of times, cold start, it wasn't the furnace. It was a downdraft or something, I put a wad of paper in there and let it up, that forced the Smoke up and out
One time I had smoke coming out of every little crack every time I closed the door, that was the result of a few beers and trying to get the stove going with the air closed all the way in
