We load six medium splits minimum, usually 8 to 10. When its the lower number its likely because I've been lazy and have not emptied ash in several weeks.

We've also been burning kiln dried oak ends from a local hard woods manufacturer. We had to be extremely careful with a big load of them in the Fireview because we could overfire it easily if we didn't stay on top of it.

But we've packed this thing tight with kiln dried oak and let 'er rip and never once did it get out of control. The air control on this stove is just fantastic.

That is something else I'm really looking forward to, more air control. The Oslo has a really 'slack' lever and sometimes I have to adjust
it by sound vs. where it is on the slide.

I just checked my notes. I have not emptied ash since I ran the lodge pole pine 4 weeks ago. :emb:

Here's the stove at present. Yeah it needs cleaned out. And the 30 gallon tin can that holds all the ash from the stove so far this year. I don't know how much is "normal" for a burning season.

Can any beta testers speak to cooking on the IS? I am quite excited for this option but haven't heard anyone using them.

    Welcome Beet Stix.

I'm sorry but we have not yet used the Ideal Steel for cooking. I honestly thought we would but we just never got around to it.

My deposit has been made! Just moved into an old farm house in NW ohio. Electric heat has us running to wood. Will be first time heating with wood stove. I have 4 cords of standing dead ash c/s/a ready for next winter and 4 more on the way. Let the scrounging begin!

BS, just out of curiosity, how did you arrive to like the WS IS over anything else? You being a first time burner and this being your first stove purchase, can you tell me how this stove was the 'one'??

And not to mention, our one and only Dennis may as well be the WS all time celebrity. He got mentioned with the soon to be "gearhead hybrid".
I think they should call the new hybrid stove after him.

I think I can confirm that, so long as I have the everything heated up I can shut mine down to basically zero, I noticed that with air fully closed on my stove the front air plate has nothing, but the back airplate is allowing some air, I assume that plus the fact that the cat has it's own air via the bimetal switch it keeps it going.

Edit: After posting this I walked out and look at how the stove was running. Snapped some pics, cause people might be having some post dinner popcorn snacks. I just noticed the shot of the thermo is out of focus, thats 400.

    Alas,

Miscommunication between parties, Tom thought I was after a bottom shield not rear, no pics alas. He didn't bring the bottom when I told him I didn't need it.
