I got a bead on a Stihl 064 AV for $450, looks like it is in decadent shape, needs to be cleaned up, and spikes replaced.

What say you FHC deal or no deal?

Looks like the 064 doesn't have a compresion release?

I'm assuming you meant decent shape? :D $ 450.00 is about the max for that saw looking at the condition. If compression & cyl both look good I'd offer $400.00.

Fuel tank looks suspiciously whiter than the rest of the saw.

amateur cutter, thanks for the correction I did mean decent shape. thanks for the reply, I am thinking $400 max as long as everything checks out. I see you have a 460 and 064. How would you compare the 2 saws? Which saw do you use more?

    Thanks

Yep and probably Chinese too boot. I wouldn't be surprised if the bottom dog bolt is stripped out too. Those sometimes do double duty as a case bolt as well

If the bottom dog bolt is srtipped out (which it looks like it could be) is the a giant pain to fix?

    1. No comp release on 064s.
    2. The bottom dawg hole can easily be time serted as it’s not a case screw hole for this model. Helicoils work but... time serts are better.
    3. The whiter tank - AM tanks will fit 064s but the plastics would all need to be 660 style. Another pic would confirm, but it’s probably oem.
    4. 1122s get worked. Rare is the saw that’s lived an easy life. $400 is my max without knowing its history. If no crank wiggle, decent p/c, and it runs good... maybe.
    5. it may be rev limited (which is actually fine), so ask to put it in wood and listen closely.

    460 vs. 064
The 460 with a 25” bar is nice. The 064 will beat it (it should... 85cc vs. 77cc) and is probably just a touch heavier. I have a few of both and will go 064 if I’m over 24/25” bar territory.

It looks pretty nice to me. Guys are wanting that much for a 046/ms460 here when I rarely seen them for sale. I'd buy it if I was local, assuming it has the original stihl cylinder on it and it is not scarred up.

This reply. Both mine are good saws. 046 gets most of the work till the big wood. Good info on the other "stuff" too. Saved me a bunch of typing LOL.

I was going to meet him tomorrow, the guy lived about 1 1/2 hours away, but was coming through the town I live in. Just checked to confirm meeting... The saw already sold :hair::hair:

Oh well I certainty didn't need the saw. Now I really want one.

    Thanks for the feedback FHC!!

Man that sucks. 064s are sought after because they are light weight and you can put an 066 cylinder on them. They weigh less than a MS460.

Unfortunately, these days I typically assume the worst. It does appear to be a newer tank, but I would think close examination would be needed for origin. Perhaps the aftermarket tank is fine, but the seller should make it known IMO if it is not genuine Stihl.

    Nevermind...sold. lol
