Yep there's just something soothing about knowing your winter warmth is right outside the door and not sitting in a tank truck waiting to be delivered. Not only that but when the power goes out, you're still warm. Maybe not as efficiently without the fan but you won't freeze. While it isn't stacked yet, there's 6-7 cord in this pic waiting to be stacked in the shed. Oh and welcome Valleyman
Sometimes it's calming, sometimes it makes you say "man, I have got some WORK to do!" Good feeling either way if you ask me. And welcome!
Lol, you know it ! Still learning to ID trees and when I figured out the cherry , felt like Christmas ! It was on the side of a hwy, so I had to be quick and left a couple 6 footers. Drove by a couple days later- gone !!
Welcome to the forum Valleyman. I’m relatively new to this forum as well. I’ve been on another for a few years now. I always find pleasure in finding a fellow CT Nutmegger on one of these forums. I feel like we are a significant minority when it comes to wood burning. I myself am working on the 3 year plan. I made it to the 2 year plan this year, but I’m still scrounging, splitting, and stacking towards year 3! I’m curious which “valley” you are from. Naugatuck, Farmington, CT River, etc.? Best of luck. I spent Tues. & Wed. c/s/s, a lot of uglies, and crotch limbs, 3 and 4 inch limbs came out to a cord and a half. At the end of each day I did the gazing and admiring. I always do, you see what you did turning a pile of logs into usable farwood. When I first joined I had a year and half of wood, now I have my 3 three plan in plain sight ( to be gazed upon and admired! ) Now it's time to get more to replace what I burn this winter. Your very normal here.
Valleyman , I'll tell you, they have some great pocket sized tree ID books out there. You can easily keep in it your coat pocket or truck when your gathering or just waking in the woods. It will help you enormously. Maybe Santa will be good to you!
Yesss, good idea, thanks. Yeah, I have used the Audabon birding books with great results. Going on the wish list now.
No question about it Valleyman ... you're in the right place. Almost 4000 FHC members feel the same way when we sit back and gaze out at our hoards of firewood or pellets. Welcome...
Not too far away from me then. I’ll actually be in Naugatuck tomorrow morning for my sons Pop Warner game. We were in Ansonia for a game a couple weeks ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
