Just got a 22 ton Oregon Splitter with a Kohler SH-265 engine. It's being delivered this afternoon. Instead of getting one at TSC or HD we decided to go to the local dealer. We've gotten our snowblower and leaf blower from him, and he's always given us good service, and prices. Don't know if any of you all have one, but I'm thinking it should be more than decent for our needs. I know it's too late, but any thoughts on the splitter?
Excellent Al. You're gonna' love it. You'll need to do a review once you get some time on it. Make sure they filled with hyd. oil and engine too. I don't see any log catchers or whatever they're called. Watch your feets.
Looks great . That will do all you ever need to do !!! I agree..watch your feet...and watch out for that engine . I still dont understand why they put the engines so close to harms way ...makes me nervous Maybe not everyone chucks wood around like I do LOL !
Just looking at your pic...looks like it has a nice cradle on the beam to keep the wood kind of contained...NICE !!
Thanks, Dave. Log catcher is an option. I think I'll get one if I do much horizontal splitting. They're supposed to put it together and fill all the fluids, but you can make sure I'm gonna check.
It finally arrived. Had to take it for a test drive. First, I had to dig out the milk crate. Dennis is right, it works nice! Yeah, I love this thing! Shoulda gotten it sooner.
On horizontal/vertical splitters the designs are all very similar... In order to get the beam to pivot vertically they hinge point needs to be in a certain spot so that the foot sits on the ground when vertical... That means the axle has to be right where you stand... Which means the tongue weight is wrong... So they put the engine there to help with the weight distribution... If you ask me the whole design concept is a compromise. Of course if you have a milk crate everything is ok , looks good Al!
