After 11 months of searching & waiting, the final missing piece to the puzzle is found....Excellent quality reproduction air filter cover decal.Original NOS ones have been gone for over 30 years now. Probably be sent Monday & I should see it by next weekend. http://www.ebay.com/itm/McCulloch-S...140292733?pt=US_Chainsaws&hash=item4d197fe07d
More than likely I'll keep the 88 over the 84 if I'm going to sell one. The 88 parts are still available at the dealer and the 84 not so much. The cylinder on this 84 is pristine.
I have a NOS air filter cover (non HD) and base if you want it. Just trade me something or make an offer. Nice looking saws Mike. Hate to ask, but I wonder how the 064 tag got turned around lol.
Ok I'm going to run max flow kits on the 88 for now. I don't know how the tag got turned. It wouldn't start easily today so I've got to mess with it tomorrow some. I was busy and didn't take the time to see if it was flooded or not. I had the 84 and 88 to run and then I knocked a poplar down and we had Paul's xpw that just got put together after port work.
I did this one. He had one by Copsey and one by Treemonkey. I think it is stronger than those were. I think it's the strongest one I've built so far. My old one was a hair stronger than his from Scott.
That is good to hear Mike. What kind of difference was there between his two builder saws. Just picking your brain, no other reason. I think you are doing some fine work, and wouldn't have any problem sending you a saw.
I don't know what they did to them. I didn't pull them apart and check what was done. This one just seems to be stronger but without them here side by side to test with it's hard to say. I know it did pull 10.8-11.2k in the cut in some maple that's been down almost a year now. Mine wouldn't do it and that's almost what the 288 was pulling in that piece of wood.
I meant performance differences.. not necessarily times just if there were any significant difference performance difference by feel. Also, what kind of compression numbers. I swear I'm not writing a book, just pickin your brain lol.
Not really a big difference in any of them. I know Eric takes out the bottom ring or did then to get the transfers wider. I didn't widen them any just raised them up where they needed to be. Without bigger wood to put a longer bar on it and really see if it will pull as hard with say a 32" semi skip or something like that.
Cool Mike, thank ya. I have one that Eric did too, but with the 75cc jug. Pretty wild saw, its just been so stinking cold and so much snow on the ground I haven't been able to play with it.
Dad bought his new in spring 1981,I wasn't quite 18.All kinds of torque for a 56cc saw.Would pull that 20" chain in White Oak all day long......First saw I ran on a regular basis. One helluva saw, after 100+ cords,6 bars,30+ full comp chains hand filed to nothing,3 air filters/spark plugs it was ''retired'' in 2002.Bought a 2nd 3400 as a parts source in 2011,after a tuneup the old beast sounds as good as it did years ago.Sure don't build 'em like they used to!
