It's not with oil but different locations vary. I ordered 100 gals of oil today, cost me $2.14 yet somebody 20 miles away getting it from a different office of the same company will pay more or less, depending on the location.

I too hate propane (except for my cook stove). But, that is what my whater heater and boiler run on, so have to live with it. Way too many $$$ to change out and don't have any place for an oil tank anyway - definitely not going electric. All of which is why I have pellet stoves :D:coldfire:

I still use propane for our furnace (used very little), cooktop and backup generator. Fill up once every 2 years or so!!

Well, it has been mentioned that pellets toves are not hot to the touch. Fact is that some are and some are not. My stove will take your skin off in a second if you touch the metal around the firebox-others are cast iron and those tend to be only warm to the touch.

Since you already burn wood it is likely a taught issue in the household and young-uns, but its still there.

Yes he is well aware what hot is. The wood burner is in the basement so no worries there.

The first pellet stove I had, the cats could lay on while it burned full tilt. This one is hot enough to blister you should you touch it. Only the pellet hopper is safe to touch. I have seen my cats jump up on the stove only to jump right off. They don't don't try that twice in one heating season. The dogs never touch the stove. When kids are around, it put up a fire screen to keep them away. I can tell them 5 times to stay away from it, but they don't listen. They get to horsing around and get too close.

That was my concern when I saw the picture and where the stove will be around young kids. Lets face it, they will horse around-we all did.

And the smaller ones will fall any which way- they all do while learning to walk. PITA for me and the woods stoves (2, 24/7, pine, restoked every few hours), but I preferred the protection for the wobbly toddler.

Well we haven’t purchased anything yet. I’m working on running the wire and installing the shut off switch. Hopefully if the weather is good enough I can pour the cement pad this weekend. I am a big fan of winter except the dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home... nothing around here gets done as quickly as we would like but most of the work is usually diy. I will post updates as I go

Our dishwasher is on the fritz (something you know all about) hoping to get some sort of deal at home cheapo on both

Thanks we have decided that the pellet stove idea is out. Maybe the link can help someone else tho.
I have a few friends that burn pellets, and it seems(like anything in life) if you get a cheap stove and cheap pellets they have problems. One guy has a Harman and burns premo pellets and says he never has issues. We don’t have the 3000 to spend on a quality stove and don’t have time to deal with issues that come with a cheap stove. And the solar array on the garage roof is a nudge toward the heat pump as well.

I have that stove and have not had any issues burning numerous brands of pellets. Most of the problems with stoves are that they are not maintained properly. Cleaning issues in particular.
