I'd be curious if his sail door is sticking...you don't have that much of a vent run so having to run the damper wide open means it's not getting enough air or you're not moving enough air...

I need a % of opening on the air intake?
If it's still open 100% start cutting back some and wait to see what's happening to the flame and color of ashes. Trial and error will get you to the sweet spot of operation, you probably know that already.

My damper is only open 20-30% and I'm getting a ridiculously clean burn (all light grey fluffy ash...no chunks whatsoever...completely uniform in color)...but mine is heavily modified...

If yours is running consistent and you're happy with the results, then just keep it clean and enjoy!

I replaced mine with the newer side open version...my original was heavily corroded and I can see it being an intake obstacle if it were to get stuck partially open/closed. Mark from Fahrenheit would always tell me to poke a rod in there to make sure it's opening...it sits quite a way into the intake path...kinda a PITA to swap out...

Thanks Fellas! I 'll close the damper a little every day and see what it does. The next couple days its suppose to be 40- 50 degrees so she wont be out of idle much...lol

Question for whoever it applies to.
When the furnace goes into pot cleaning, does a motor stays on while in operation?
Meaning the top plate moves in position and waits for a fire to build up and then does the cleaning of the bottom one. Or I should ask what happens if the pusher doesn't reach it full extension? Does the motor stays on or times out?
Trying to grasp the full concept of this newer to me furnace.

The cleaning action is just a pre-programmed event...the furnace runs more or less as normal when it cycles through it...only an actuator limit error (jam) will cause it to shut down...I've had all kinds of things go wrong during the cleaning cycle and most end up with the pot overflowing (re-light plate comes off actuator arm and falls into pot as an example).

I'm sure the feed rate is toned down, but that's probably it...

How much is the air inlet opened?
Seems to be it could be cut back some more..... Dex the expert hasn't chimmed in yet. I did mix corn in my older unit but yet into this one. I would leave it on premium pellets but you can try different settings. I prefer to have less auto cleans but if it warrants extra by all means go for it.

You want some retention with the flame so it heats the exchanger tubes better and not fly out the vent. Mine the flame is on the lazy side and it flutters around the firebox. I'll try to post a video within a day. Mind you, I have a upgraded exhaust motor and impeller and my intake is around 30%. Yours will behave differently.

Well...cleaned the new pot assemble yesterday. Easiest cleaning job since I've had the machine (7-8 years)...hardly any ash on the sides & back...I'm curious about all the comments on having a lazier flame...with my current very active flame my house heats up considerably quicker than before and my furnace is rarely running on #5...most of the time it's chilling at #1. I've got a good high temp heat probe from my smaller PC furnace...going to install that in the vent and see what temps I'm getting when basting and chilling.

I'm sure your flaming flame has a lot to do with less ashes built-up in the furnace. I just bumped mine up to 40% to see what gives.........
You might be on to something.
Can't wait to see your temperature readings
