It's taken 5+ years of hoarding, scrounging, etc. to finally be able to say that I'm 3+year ahead on wood for my 13NC!! Twas mild here until recently; so I've not been burning more than for about 3 weeks, but my wood lights off easily. I attribute that to the "Three Year Plan" that's preached "HERE" and by Backwoods Savage. I don't need no moisture meter!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your hoard of wood. It is good when you know that the wood you are going to put in your stove is dry and have little to no creosote problems. Gotta love it. 3 year plan. It is funny when some of the people here see my wood and ask why so much. I just say I am on the 3 year plan but, I then get this look of huh.
Great job! You may not need a moisture meter, but you still want one. It's a useful tool that will help you get to the 3 year plan. Plus, they are fun to play with.
I remember when my fully seasoned wood got burnt for the first time....It was so nice to see a properly lighting/functioning epa stove! And MightyWhitey it just so happens it was a 13 also.
Thanks Whitey and congratulations to you! 5 years was not a bad time for getting that all together. Now just like after priming the pump, the pumping gets much easier. Just a little steady even pressure will get the job done.
LOL, every time I read some thing like that it amuses me, I dont need a moisture meter either but I was curious so I bought a cheap one (all you need as they have been compared to expensive ones used for furniture making) and I leaned a few things. Oak does not take 3 years for me to dry (some Oak I cut is dead) and certain types of wood (dead Elm for one) are ready to be burnt at the time of cutting. I dont need temp gauges on my stove also but just another useful tool in the big picture. They can give you an idea if your drying techniques are working as well as they should be. As BWS has stated, many woods dont need 3 years to dry ( dont think I have any) but being ahead 3 years is piece of mind, I have got rather compulsive in my old age about being way ahead on my wood supply.
