Did he/you count the rings from the entry point to the live edge?

I find those in my splits too, but usually it's because I'm looking for them.:D

Looks to me like a pistol slug. It looks like a full metal jacket from what I see.

I believe this wood was delivered, so no chance to look for rings.

You could always do a bit of forensix: piece back together the splits into rounds, then you'll have your answer :deadhorse:

Yes, looks like a FMJ round nose. Autoloader caliber. Hard to judge diameter from a photograph but going by length to diameter (Easy Boys!), I would say 10mm at a pretty wild guess 'cause it looks well over a diameter long.

You know, with a little effort, you can use that one over again, right? :faint:

You better hope forensics does not come to your house and find any Jimmy Hoffa tissue on that thing. Like a wise friend once said, 'You know, that is still your projectile no matter where it ends up, and sometimes people want to know the starting point of some of them.....'

I think that it looks to big for either of those. Maybe he can put a ruler up to it so we could get a better idea.

Not likely, it is fully jacketed. Muzzle stuffers and shotgun slugs are lead.

Yeah, but is he gonna' 'fess up that he is skilled at measuring small, round things with blunt ends?

    Sorry, could not resist..... ;)

Hey, I know- measure the lands and grooves from the rifling marks in the jacket, tell us what the twist rate is and whether it is an RH or LH twist and <maybe> we can tell you what spat it out.

I was thinking. 45, but it seems pretty squat, so no 9mm or so.

I did that last summer, decided to shoot the round and then see how much it penetrated. This was a .40 vs black walnut 20161022_154454.jpg
