Well I sold my lathe so I'd have to farm out the machine work. Plus my work schedule can be way different from normal and it could sit here for a few months
Freeze up is almost here. That is when most all of my wood cutting happens. After March to April, I am done for six months. Plus I have other saws. I just wanted to make my 261 a little hotter and faster.
I just bought 2 Stihls @ 261c and 441 r-cm. Not really looking, but I did send a message to the gentleman that has it.
All this talk 'bout saw, I have to take a snack break, eat some smoked Copper River Silver salmon, caught from right over by Glen's. Right out of the famous Copper River.
The Stihl 3003 000 6313 16" picco bar will fit the 261 series ...you will also need the picco 7 pin rim... I have about 50ft of picco ps63 left so I can make u a chain if so desired 20% quicker cutting bolt -on performance .... I also have a loop of sqr/sqr grind made up which will give u quite a bit more speed but you would need a goofy file to sharpen it .... do a simple muffler mod and equip with picco bar and chain and its good nite Irene ...
I just dropped coin converting the 261 from .325 to 3/8's with a 20 inch ES Light bar, I would rather keep the setup and port+muffler mod the saw.
I put a 20 inch on the 261 but really don't like them that shorter than that. If I had a different way to process I would run a 16, that or I was shorter. By the end of the day, I damm near have to take a knee to cut on ground level. Do you have any 3/8 square/square loops, like some 20 and 25 inch?
If you have a way to load the logs - this is the cats azz ! Not available in the USA but if u have welding/fab skills you can make your own ... send you a vid in a minute
I try not to get big logs, I bought the 441 to buck the pile at the house. I bought the 261 to fell the trees, with a spare 034 super or 036 pro in the truck. My goal is to get logs that that I don't have to split. I wanted a lite, powerful saw to fell. Terrain and conditions in Alaska is not like anything anywhere else. I can only imagine that many of the things I write or ask doesn't make much sense. Things are different here. I have lived and harvested wood in 15 or so states, none of that experience cross over to here.
That is some chain there. Is that a square filed, race chain I saw mentioned on the square file thread?
You can paint by numbers if you want ... lol .... I have a husky 395xp .... more a Ford vs Chevy debate
