I have a couple pieces of wood with this stuff growing out of it....is it ok to burn with it or is it diseased wood or something ?
Call me crazy, but I like seeing fungus on my splits. They eat moisture, right? Don't know if I'd cook a burger over it until the 'shrooms burn off, but it'll be fine in the stove.
Pay attention to allergic reactions if you store it in your house for any length of time. But hell yeah, burn it.
I've had wood from push down piles that had funky stuff like that, and it burned fine. I wouldn't store it inside, just walk it straight to the firebox and throw it in. Also, it'll probably smell a bit stanky outside momentarily.
It could be either as already mentioned, or else an extraterrestrial organism like “Calvin” as seen on the 2017 movie ‘Life’. I’m guessing the former. Burn it.
If there is any harm in burning it, we are in trouble here! We've already burned a bunch of it this fall. Also, most times when we find it on our wood the wood has started to turn toward being punky and it a lot lighter. But then, it was wet when stacked so it grew the fungus and has been in the stack for years before we burn it. Therefore, that stuff gets burned in fall or spring for the most part.
