I finially got one saturday morning. I haven't hunted much in 4 years so haven't killed one in that many years and had a dry spell before that where I just hadn't seen any bucks bigger than say yearling size. I finially have had several oportunities to go this season including opening weekend which is the first one I have gone on in several years at least. I missed Big6 that weekend. A huge mature dominant 6 point. I finially got over that where I didn't see that sight picture of him broadside. I had several clean misses. I shot a tree branch at least once, probaly twice. This last Saturday morning I hadn't been up the tree 5 mins and this deer walked by at about 40 foot. I call him Field Buck and Mr Crooked Horn, since I have so many pics of him out in my field and then also cause he has a broken but healed main beam. This deer was killed on my family Property in the piedmont of SC about 1 hour south of Charlotte NC.
Yea I gonna mount him. Full shoulder mount. These days pretty much anything I kill is either shoulder mounted or I do a European mount with the skull.
Nice buck buddy. Sat must have been the day, I also had a good day , saw 4 bucks till I shot an 2 more till I got out of stand hr later. Our bow season is still in here Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I read an article 2 days ago, that I clicked on at Legendary Whitetais it said with the mood falling when it did it was a rutting moon or something and should be an extra good intense rut. It pinpointed the best day of the rut to be Nov 4!! My cousin also killed a nice one at my place on the 4th!. Nice buck by the way! We have the same phone by the way. Haha
Both of you guy's awsome bucks! clemsonfor how much did your buck weigh? Looks like a pretty big boy! I see it looks like you had a little helper with you did he help with the chore of dragging? Was he there with you on the hunt?
I didn't weigh it but I think it weighed about 170. Wasent that big a body. Mom brought him with her when she brought the truck. No he didn't hunt with me. I think I am going to try to get him in a blind end of season or just after to watch some deer out in my field. I think I can get the blind far enough back off the field, way back where we can slip in right before dark and hopefully see some deer.
The next morning he was telling mom he wanted to go with daddy to "find one more rain deer" "I want to see and pet another deer in the back of daddies truck". Big6 I estimate to be 215 on the hoof. Yea 170 is not small no. About 11 or 13 or more years ago I set 3 goals for me here in SC. These are reasonable but not super easy goals for the state. They were in no particular order... -Kill a 10 point or better (mature buck not just a 10 point yearling if that's what I saw) -Kill a buck over 200 pounds on hoof. -Kill a buck that makes the state record book. (In SC it's a minimum of 125 B&C to be entered) So about 10 years ago I killed a 10 point main frame 8 with a score able trash point off the back of the main beam and a g4 on one side...not a main frame 10 but met my goal, I was not particular on point arragement. The other 2 I have not eclipsed yet. Close but not there. I think my biggest score able buck was that 10 and it scored right around 119 inches. And I have come close on the 200 but not hit it. I killed a 196 pound one in like 2010? But I didn't not hit the mark. He was chasing and it was full rut so I know end of October he was 200+. There is no agriculture in my area and I don't have food plots planted now, I have in past but not enough. There are some on adjacent property but I don't think enough to make a difference. So a 200 pound weight is a big goal. Big6 is technically a cull buck for us being his age and just 6 points but to me he is as much a trophy as any. I hunt mature bucks and take pride in killing the dominate one. Big6 I am sure is over 200 pounds and he is trophy to me.
Nicely done gentlemen! Clemson...is that original Realtree camo? Or maybe original Mossy oak? Haven't seen that pattern for a while! Oh, and in the last pic....I see firewood in the background!
That's old school realtree. Someone must have licensed it again to produce, I got those on clearance last year at walmart . Those those silky nylon performance shirts that are popular now a days. The pants are old school realtree too. Realtree xtra brown or something? Had those pants close to 20 years. Yep all out in that fresh cut there is wood. I have so much wood all over my place up there I barely get any of it. It's 3 hours from my house and the tiny stove I have in the house I keep a small bit and sometimes bring wood with me since I haven't really been able to cut much the last few years.
