35° and tended to the fire at 430 this morning, by then it was around 30°. Loaded old apple wood ontop of birch coals. Last night’s fire was VERY nice! Had a window open and small smells of the smoke ever so slightly drafting in.

Sitting at -10 C (14 F) but -17 C with the wind. Poplar and a big stick of pine for a night snack, and poplar and a chunk of larch for breakfast.

The sun has come out pretty strong today. About 37 or so early this afternoon.

thewoodlands The water is pretty high today on the Oswegatchie. Not over the wall, but it is really moving fast. To the left of the dam it is over the Peninsula this side of the old pump house. It's pretty high when it's over that. I don't know if I caught it at peak from all that rain or not.

Been having fires nights below 40 which have been few. Don't refill in morning . Close the door between the lower 2 levels of the house and run the 'pane when I'm gone during the day. Work is slowing to a pace where I can tend the stove consistently . The truck Nazis have been running around my area all morning. Parked the truck and called it a day . Filled all the indoor racks and fired up. Looking at the 'cast I will prolly be burning 24/7 here on out. Got a mix of about all the more dense hardwoods for the shoulder stove . Wood is about 4-5 years seasoned, bark free and unidentifiable . I can't believe the extended summer we have had. It's just turned colder in the last 10 days. Looks like I'll be hanging out here a little more .

Mid 20's right now with strong sunshine once again. But man oh man, is there a chill in the air.

Clear skies tonight, at least teens for lows....then singles for lows after that.

The ponds and slow streams are turning hard. Hope the highways stay bare, don't mind driving in these conditions!

    Pine fire.
Cleaned out chimneys this afternoon and having a test fire / first fire of the season .
    46ºF outside.
Supposed to be cold by the end of the week so getting things going and ready.

Door gasket is coming unglued and sagging a tiny bit at the top so will have to get some cement and hope it holds it back in place before it gets worse. IMG_0678.JPG

Mid 30s for highs and lows in the low 20s. Been loading the Ideal Steel once a day in the evenings having it carry the cold nights. Close it down in the AM to save coals for the reload in the PM. Letting the NG get the house back up to temp in the evening (being its so cheap). Conserve some wood for the frigid days!

How far is it to your place Zap? I've got some 40" Cherry logs I could drop to you, make you feel more like yourself again.

We have three more cherry trees that are down that I'll need to get in the spring. We'll have about two face cord of cherry ready for next year.
