Hey folks!! Been a while since i posted anything but i thought i should share this. My brother in law has a hunting buddy who has a cabin roughly 50 miles out of town. Tons or dead fall and standing dead on his acreage. Last weekend my bil went out there and bucked a few cords worth into 16" rounds. And this morning i hooked the log splitter up to my truck and we convoyed out and spent the day splitting and loading our trucks. Its was a great day. While checking out the other dead fall on the property i spotted a bunch cherry ..birch..red oak..and alder. I could hardly contain myself. The owner doesnt have any interest in wood stoves etc so its all mine for free just get it off his property!!!!!Looks like im going to make several more trips and load my back yard up like its going out of style. Its a good time and its super rewarding work when you stand back and admire your stacks. I know we all love pics so heres the start of them and ill post more when i stack. Cheers everyone!!!

Ps the big blue dodge ended up getting filled to the roof!!! And next time ill have my big diesel instead of the little truck.

My first thought was that the Mitsubishi looks like a rare truck. Then I saw you're in BC. Is it a diesel?
Nice wood too. Nice to have variety.

Ya bogydave i do feel like a kid in a candy store. Its a great feeling when you can break away from the challenges of everyday life and just go do something you enjoy even though it requires extra effort and energy.

Blacktail ...ya i am in bc ..about an hour out of vancouver. That mitsubishi i had purchased from an elderly man that had imported it years ago. He used it as a fishing / camping rig. He ended up with bad hips and knees and couldnt use the clutch anymore. Picked it up for $4500. It is a 2.5L 4 cyl turbo diesel. The fuel economy is so good its insane and it hauls anything with in reason. Nothing like my old 12 valve cummins though!!!! Saw a bumper sticker few days ago saying "real trucks dont have spark plugs" lol. Cheers

Its a rare truck in bc thats for sure...especially being right hand drive...but there are millions of them apparently in australia and japan etc. Parts are surprisingly abundant and easy to find.

Yep nice score on the wood. Split on site then all you have to do is take it home and stack it. Nice.

The mistubishi is a 1992 with a 4cyl turbo diesel 5 spd. Its a great truck. Un stoppable with that 4wd with stock front and rear diff locks. Fuel economy is my favourite part. Surprisingly it can tow a fair bit of weight.

Nice score! You make me jealous with some of that high btu wood. Best we can do at this end of the province is birch and there isnt much of it.

Well if and when you get you hands on some birch...it is fantastic. Splits easy and burns hot with a nice smell and good coals. What type of wood is abundant on your side of the province sean? Id imagine fir and pine and cedar. Stuff like that?

Ive had a bit of birch over the years but nothing lately. A few years ago I had about half a cord that I happened to come across from a hydro clearing crew. The odd time I do come across it its from blow downs after a wind storm but otherwise its standing rotten. I can drive about an hour to get some cedar but I dont often pursue it since its so low in btus. Our dominate wood is lodgepole pine, doug fir and spruce. Also we have a good supply of larch or tamarack which has almost the same btus as birch but can be found standing dead without the rot.

Douglas Fir is supposed to be dammed good firewood based on btu ratings and pelletheads sure seem to like it.
