One of the simple pleasures in life is the mail lady. We hear the truck coming down the other side road with its unique sound and know that in about 30 minutes later she'll be coming our way. I always go out as she pulls up to the mailbox and she hands me the mail (when I'm home from work) and we talk for a half or minute or so about whatever. It is just a small slice of what makes country living so great. I am the 5th generation to live in my house (c.1880) and grow my food here. It was my Grammy's garden and I think of her as I till and work it. Our roots run deep here, and growing our own food and cutting our own wood tie me to those roots. So here is some pics, the mail lady, and a wagon wheel rescued from the woods decades ago. Was it my grandfathers many years ago? DSCN1732.JPG DSCN1730.JPG DSCN1731.JPG

We too have a very nice mail lady. She will also gladly stop to chat a couple minutes. She also really appreciates that I take care of the spot where she has to drive up to the mailbox and wishes everyone would do that, especially on these gravel roads. In winter I will also clear snow from around our mail box and several of the neighbors too.

Right-on in regards to country living. We've had the same mail lady for 20+ years as well. Know exactly what you mean NH MM.

When I first moved to the city, at the time I had a free subscription to Maxium magazine that I have no idea how I ended up getting it. One day I grab the mail, and written across the plastic wrapper it came in was "PERVERT!" I didnt know what to think until a few days later I was home early and saw the mailman. It was a good friend of mine that I had lived next door to just before moving to this city.

So NH mountain man, have you found any old items digging around the yard? An old homestead like that must have some interesting old finds in the dirt.

No doubt a nice place to be. Someday we hope to get a little more rural.

I friend came down about 25 yrs. ago with a metal detector and we went around the yard. We found of all things, a buried woodstove in pieces .  Years ago we used to regularly find clay marbles in the garden when rototilling in the spring. We haven't come across them much lately.

Love it, NH mountain man! It's like that here, too. And my house has always been in my family, since my Great Great Grandpa and Great Grandpa built it back in the teens.
    Good post buddy!

Very cool, as cities get worse, makes living the country life so much better. I miss having the mail delivered. We have to go to the Post Office and get the mail. Dang the hard life.

I'm 4th generation, but it's not so rural here any more. Most of the farms are now ticky-tacky housing tracts now. Or "estates".
