Well I organized a few things this morning and then paid some bills. Then took a drive to look at a new toy, I mean:whistle:, piece of work equipment for the three point hitch on the tractor.

I too do not like fruitcake. Until I tried one at my Mom's a couple decades ago. It is from eagle harbor mi (in the U.P. of course) and has brandy used for the moistener in it. It is really REALLY good. They also offer other things there.

Okay, you've inspired me. Rather than a drawing, the hooks we used to make were similar. You just need some heavy wire. We used to make them about 4' or 5' long (after the bends). For the hook, all you need to do is to make a bend (a U) in the end of the wired and we liked to make sure it was about 5-6" long after the bend. Then toward the end of the bend, just bend it out a little to make it easier to get around the leg of a chicken. On the end you hang on to , just bend so that you make a little handle. I hope this makes sense to you.

If done right, a 5 year old boy can easily catch a chicken.

This is about as simple as I can make it, albeit a little sloppy on the drawing. Try it and you will be amazed at how easy it is to catch those birds. The reason for the length is to keep you away from the bird and this way they don't get so scared and it is easy to hook it. You rarely miss.

That shows it well except for explaining what length to make it.

By the legs, I believe. You wouldn't want your chicken to choke would you? :D
