I'm thinking burning the splits when it comes time might be a problem as far a breathing in bad fumes. But it could be handy. Opinions?
What caliber are you shooting into it? If you stack like I do there would be a lot of gaps for a bullet to stray too.
There's the melting point of lead, and then there's a much higher temp where it vaporizes. I can't recall off hand what they are though. I think you'd be okay, just one guys opinion.
This stack is 10 rows deep, lol. Yeah, I just throw out my ashes now. It'd be for .223, 9mm, .22. Just a concept.
Just melting lead (bullet casting) you are exposed to lotsa lead vapor by inhalation. It will also hurt or possibly kill a catalytic converter if your stove is equipped. Most people freak out about lead, it's not that bad mostly really bad for kids. I would think most lead vapor would go up the chimney, but if it didn't I really wouldn't want to be in a confined living space with it. That's coming from me, who chuckle's inside when I see ppe posts or safety police posts............
I'd be more concerned about the copper jacketing on a bullet than the lead itself, in terms of burning in a cat stove.....I think different oxides of.copper can be bad for stainless piping, too.... Good to see ya, VelvetFoot!
