Just had an interesting moment of terror. Mrssaskwoodburner had a roast going in the oven and I was in the next room, the same room as the wood stove. All the sudden she's exclaiming fire!fire!fire! At first it confused me, seeing I was sitting in the room with the woodstove, no smoke billowing or whatever from the kitchen, and the roast in liquid broth, but I boogey into the kitchen, grab an extinguisher, and am ready to battle. She opens the oven, and I quickly put on oven mitts and pull the roaster pan, then grab the extinguisher again, trying to determine why she's in a panic over a little flame on the element. Then it occurs to me the element is burning/arcing/welding itself lol That was a real wtf moment Off to kick the breaker and unplug the stove. Apparently this type of thing happens, but it was a first for me. So the bright side of it all, I keep a cool head when I hear fire. I'm just reading up on it, apparently a clean up and new element should have it up and running. Glad it was just a minor something, but it sure got me going for a few moments.
Had something similar happen a while back on one of the stove top elements. Welded the contacts, and burned through a couple small spots. That burner got decommissioned. Watching the sparks fly from 25 feet away was.....interesting. Took me a second to react and get to the stove to turn off that "burner". Glad it wasn't too serious.
Glad it wasn't worse! We had a similar situation with our wall oven about 10 years ago, I ripped that right out after that and we bought a contained range and oven. Since then we we converted to gas and now I'm all gas. The wife and something in the oven and she happened to be in the kitchen when it started, by the time she yelled it looked like the 4th of July celebration for a short time. I did the same thing you did, but I hit the breaker first! US Navy training kicked in! After getting it all cool and shut down, the lower element looked like it imploded on itself . Anyway, glad your and everthing is ok.
Had pretty much the same thing here a few years back. Lucky it took place while we were at home as we could react immediately! 99 likes to time bake and also leave the burners on simmer throughout the day.......
