Electric bill wend down when the kids left here also but the BIG winner was the water bill. Not sure what or how vigorously my oldest used to wash in the shower but they could be downright impressive in how long he was in there. Nobody else was interested though, including him, so I started turning off the hot water to the shower once I had had enough..... that really cut the shower time down. I guess it is just not the same with cold water?

   ;)

Yup, turning down the hot water after 40 minutes of a sleepover guest (little miss prissy drunk) worked out great here too! Glad her son moved on from that one. Man, I had orders not to make noise before 12:00 noon whenever she slept here.......yeah, right! Like I'm going to tiptoe around just cuz they rolled in at daybreak!

The real entertainment here when I turned off the hot water was that my younger son (the older one was the shower hog) would jump up and down with genuine glee and say 'Do it Dad, do it, do it, do it!' The young one was probably 6 and the older one 9 or 10 and it was a riot watching the young one get all excited because his brother was going to get chilled in the shower.....

Oldest son STILL takes ridiculously long showers but now it is on his 'dime', not mine. I did not mind the cost of the water so much, or even the cost to heat it but we had an ancient cesspool that I really, really did not want to replace with a septic system.

I think its a 20$ per month min charge here where i live. Pretty easy to keep the bill at 50-90$ per month. I dont leave any lights on when im gone, the clothes washer died so i been doen laundry at the girlfriends house. Some friends of mine pay 175-250$ per month ( electric heat and multiple teenagers) im jumping for joy that its not me!
