I made a couple of these last year and they seemed to work ok. Last year I used the forks on my tractor to move the loaded cart Got the raw materials from local store. I asked if I could take the carts. They were all damaged in some way. Bent uprights, bottom rotted out, bent bottom frame from forklift hit. Thought I could make something out of the parts. They were glad to get rid of the carts and I thought the price was right - free! I cut the uprights in half. Cut up expanded wire to fit ends Straightened frame, uprights etc.
Some more pics The tow hooks were removed from cart bottom I don't think the one hooked up to mower will work with full cart, it's too light duty The other I can hook up to golf cart and it's stout
So towing a full cart is doable but heavy. Towing empty ones back to be refilled is excellent. Moving full carts is best with tractor forks!
Ha Ha They are actually made to do this! That's where I got the 2 tow bars from. They have a post on one end and tow bar on the other
Yeah that sounds like too much weight for a lawnmower. The tractor forks can still do the job though when loaded. It's nice that they have a top too.
Rider mower is for the empty towing. Golf cart tows it just fine but the vibration as it moves leaves a trail of splits
Nice carts. Nice price! Do you think larger rubber tire casters would work better on the ground? Maybe in the future you could find some on sale or cheap at a garage sale/Craigslist and use those current ones for something else.
Rolls real easy on brick patio and blacktop and that's all I really wanted. Cheap and serves purpose near house Tractor with forks is really easiest over lawn and where wood is stored
Thought I'd update. Made 3 of the carts with wheels and loaded them up. Had to make sure they didn't block view from screen porch. I moved them after filling with forks on tractor. Hanging side panel helps with blowing rain and snow. I can open sliding glass door and grab some splits easily. I use a golf cart to reload as long as the weather cooperates.
HDRock thanks We all are dealing with similar problems when burning wood Splitting and stacking are one big thing but moving and managing wood is another really big issue. We all learn from each other to streamline our skills and methods!
Rope love the pic That's how I started moving wood with my tractor! Do you have forks. If you do you could lift a cart like mine, set it down on top of deck and roll it to where you want it. I'm always looking for new ways to use tractor and ways to cut down how many times I handle firewood
