Just a few branches down and lots of new kindling to pick up, after the nor'easter rolled through last night. Looks like 250,00 people without power in MA, and 800,000 in New England. I hope all the FHC'ers in the area fared as well as I did. Should be lots of wood to scrounge, if it doesn't get chipped up. 3" of rain overnight. Week total of 6".
My dad is in New Jersey just south /south east of Philly on a contracting job. Do you know how that area fared?
We lost power at 11pm last night and it is still out. Looking at the national grid site we may not have power back until tomorrow. Thankfully we have a house generator keeping the lights on and the fridge and freezer cold. TONS or trees down in my area. Wife went to work this morning and had to take 4 routes before she could get there. Trees and power lines down blocking roads. She said there were a lot of trees of cars and houses as well. Hope everyone is safe today! There will be a lot of free wood for the taking around here in the coming days.
Glad the southern states are through it. Started in my area overnight. Went to work about 7:15 it was fine. 8 am lost power and sent everyone home. Lost 2 doors on the building from the wind gusts grabbing them. Came home at 8:45. Bunch of the roads closed. Trees down everywhere. Not many places with power.
Windy as heck last night! We lost power about 11pm so I went to bed. I think it was out for about 3 hours, I heard the sump pump kicking on around 3 something. It concerns me when we lose power for that reason. I bought a gas powered pump so out basement doesn't flood. Woke this morning and all is well, we don't even have any branches on the ground! Time to scour CL for downed wood.
Watching the news this morning, I was expecting to see the results of an atomic blast when the sun came up. I think I passed one downed tree on my way into work.
Ton of dead branches down from oak trees weakened by gypsy moths and age. 1/2 of a huge old double white oak down A few smallish dead from the drought last year pines blown over, looks like rotting roots weren't anchoring them any more. Not too many leaves left in the maples. Most are on the ground still green or partly a little yellow. Didn't get much color out of them this year. I hear a saw running cutting something so gotta go check it out.
I'm an hour North of center city Philadelphia. Not much in the way of branches or trees down anywhere on my drive into work. Plenty of rain overnight. My skylight in the kitchen sprung a leak. Add that to the list house repairs I currently have in progress.
I suspect that Midwinter will out-scrounge most anyone over the next few weeks. That wood dump she frequents is sure to have new donations. billb3 - bad news: you lost half a white oak. Good news: you lost half a white oak Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Few people without power here, just some branches down in the neighbors yard that I will take off his hand, otherwise just whole lotta leaves every where supposed to drop to mid 30s tomorrow then warm up again
Actually it's not sucking that's the problem! Everything in the basement is on plastic pallets as we get some water from time to time. I'm gonna have the stove ripping tonight to dry things out.
So far, a smallish oak limb, and 3 big Bradford pear rounds + branch. This is the pear: I expect this whole week will be good pickings!
We took a good hit in our area. 65-ish mph gusts. Schools closed, downed wires and trees. Lots without power still. Dangerous travel this morning, no street lights, lots of downed unmarked wires, wet leaves and branches covering streets. Boston news station was right up the street with a large silver maple that split, part on a house, part on the wires. This cherry is down on the street behind us on live wires. Still have power luckily. A large locust fell onto work property. Spent half the day cleaning it up. It is loaded with bittersweet vines to make it a hassle. The locust dulls the chain up after a half tank or so. We will get back at it tomorrow. I have three dead maples at another work property, and maples behind my neighbors. I'll see where the cherry out behind us ends up. Probably can get enough for 2019-20 at this rate. No shortage of down limbs here. That earlier silver maple got cleaned up, waiting on line work. Stopped at the Stihl dealer for a new bar and chain. Good luck getting this plate ever.
