4F7631BD-67A3-4484-A4C5-2470CA050764.jpeg This is Cylinder that has been ported...The Best porting jobs are done on CNC machines.
(Computer Numerical Control) is the automation of machine tools by means of computers executing pre programmed sequences of machine control commands. This is in contrast to machines that are manually controlled by hand wheels or levers, or mechanically automated. Most of all the cylinders made by saw manufacturers are done on CNC machines. But unless you are a millionaire you would not be fortunate to buy/own the CNC machine. So you would have to revert back to the hand control lathe to do the machine work on the cylinder. CNC is for a large output of material used in just about anything that’s done in mass capacity. Right now I don’t know of anyone using CNC machines to port cylinders only stock ones for all the big saw dealers. That is why there is more quality control in the mass amount of cylinders being machined yes if they wanted to they could produce cylinders that were already custom ported but the E.P.A. would frown about that. And secondly they would not be able to give you any kind of warranty because of the basic port to a higher performance cylinder. I have seen a CNC machine at work it is amazing. You chuck up a piece of stock in it and take a cad card insert it into the software programming and it goes to work, when finished its process, the product is in closer tolerance than a man make one, on a conventional lathe. That is space age technology. I just thought I would mention it in this Post. Have a nice day...

    Great definition of a CNC.

What cylinders are CNC machined? I thought cylinders were cast and that was it.

Here's a CNC machine ski boat propeller. glWc9aavapQCAhFolYHRLxBDVFbkklJi-1.jpg

And here's what cnc can do for a cylinder. Granted this is a 4 stroke, automotive head port. Proh22intakesmall.jpg

I have yet to see any OPE 2 cycle cylinder ported by a CNC

None of them are, they are cast

    REALLY ?
    Which ones ?

So ......... a lathe can port cylinders, eh ?

I read some incredible stuff last night, but I aint posting like I know all about it.
Do you even cut wood with a chainsaw ?
